LEGO Blacktron is Back With a Revamped Renegade/Alienator Combo Set
LEGO is going back to the 1980s with an upgraded Blacktron Renegade set that’s ready to explore the far reaches of nostalgic space.
I was a forest and castle kid rather than a space adventures kid, so I totally missed these when they came out in the 1980s. LEGO’s Blacktron were the mysterious bad guys to classic space’s happy exploration guys. The sets were less clunky than previous space sets. The ships featured clear red and yellow pieces on a backdrop of sleek black bricks. Along with its distinct looks, Blacktron sets were known for their ability to be built as one large ship or broken down into smaller vehicles.

The first ship in the range was the Renegade (6954), which is making a comeback with an updated set for adult builders. And, yes, you can build two vehicles with this, just like the original Blacktron sets.

The spaceship features a planet-rover drop pod, landing gear, two wing-mounted space speeders, and two engine energy canisters. It comes with three Blacktron minifigures that pilot the ship and rover, as well as a droid to help out.

LEGO Galactic Spaceship
The retro Galaxy Explorer set has been retired. However, this city set is a great stand-in if you want to build some good guys to battle your bad guys. It comes with toy meteorites, four space crew minifigures, plus an alien figure and a driller robot. And the scale is close with the Renegade being just two inches longer.
