LEGO: ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ and Other Anime Favorites Join IDEAS 10K Club
Build an Appa, MS-06 ZAKU II, Naruto’s fave ramen shop, or Howl’s Moving Castle with these anime-inspired LEGO IDEAS sets.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Appa
This build is under review, so keep your fingers crossed that LEGO likes this favorite anime creature. It’s from creator Firecracker, who based it on the epic first season of the animated series. It’s got a decent piece count and looks like a great set for fans.
The main build is Appa, Aang’s loyal sky bison and his primary means of transportation for his adventures. The project contains 1,032 pieces featuring 4 minifigures: Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko. Elemental bending pieces, such as fire and water, as well as Sokka’s trusty boomerang are also included. This set could be both a great toy and display piece!
Howl’s Moving Castle
This moving castle by ericlego321 is jam-packed with details from the beloved movie. Its three big triple turrets, the iconic mechanical legs, the mysterious rear door, and the charming micro-city are all there. It comes in at around 2,000 pieces, including five minifigs. Oh, and it moves. As it walks it triggers the movement of its mouth, tongue, bodyside panels, and chimney simultaneously.
This set has hit 10K and is currently in review. As a fan of the movie and Technic, I really want this one to make it so I can build it. It looks like a fun challenge.
Super Robots LEGO Art
Creator Lego.Ozzy.Fan‘s trio of mechs is inspired by their love of mecha manga and anime, specifically Mazinger Z, Daitarn 3, and Goldrake. It comes in at around 1,400 pieces, and with the frame, it’s 54×38 studs. The creator used a variety of piece shapes that give it a 3D look.
This project needs your help. It’s a little over halfway to 10K. Let LEGO know this anime set is worthy of their art series—right alongside Hokusai’s The Great Wave.
Naruto Ichiraku Ramen Shop
The favorite ramen shop from the “Land of Waves” arc of Naruto’s original series, just before the “Chunnin exams” arc. I’ll admit I’m not super familiar with the series, but I’m really digging the look of this set and the obvious care put into it.
With around 1600 pieces, 8 minigures and a complete set of accessories, this set reproduces with an extraordinary level of detail Ichiraku Ramen Shop, one of the most iconic buildings of Konoha. The main floor contains the kitchen and the restaurant (just a bar with 4 seats). As the upper part of the building has been never shown in the anime, we have converted it in Teuchi’s apartment, with a little bedroom and a bathroom. It can be accessed through the stairs at the back side of the building.

MS-06 ZAKU II
Gunpla meets LEGO in this take on Zeon’s old reliable during the One Year War. This mobile suit has joint articulation, so it can be posed in various dynamic stances. Creator yama-mo-c suggests that the set be made in multiple colors and offer weapon choices so fans can create their own unique Zaku. I agree.
Don’t let the Earth Federation win…
One Piece: The Going Merry
Radevious has created a minifig scale of the Straw Hat Pirates’ ship, complete with a giant sheep figurehead on its bow. It has fun details throughout the build. All five crew members are included, as well as a menagerie of animals and Nami’s tangerine trees.
The current version uses plates for the sails, which could easily be upgraded with the vinyl LEGO uses in other kits. Let the IDEAS team know you want that…
