Raid the space lanes with these daring pirates or join a Skeleton Crew to adventure with these LEGO Star Wars pirate sets.

While Star Wars may be most famous for the conflict between the Evil Empire and the Heroic Rebels, the setting is much deeper than just that. There are numerous factions at play, including those that don’t really belong to any faction. One of the constant dangers of space is that of pirates, and Star Wars is full of them.

This faction is older than both the Republic and Empire, existing throughout time. They are heroes, villains, and something in between. Recently, Skeleton Crew gave us an in-depth look at them, but they’ve been around in Star Wars since well before that. The Hutts are both criminals and pirates.

LEGO Star Wars has done a good job of recreating some of the most famous pirate vehicles, so let’s take a look at some cool sets.

#6 – LEGO Pirate Snub Fighter (75346)

First off, we’ve got a relatively recent entry to Star Wars. The LEGO Pirate Snub fighter has shown up on both The Mandalorian and Skeleton Crew. It’s nothing fancy, but I do like the design. It looks pirate-y and is distinct from other ships. It feels very much like the light kind of ship you’d fly out of a larger pirate ship. The LEGO set isn’t huge, but I think it captures the ship well, and I love that you get a few pirates to go along with it.

#5 – HH-87 Starhopper (75024)

This older set comes to us from The Clone Wars. The Starhopper is a Hutt ship used by pirates around the galaxy. The set does a good job of bringing the ship into LEGO and has a few fun play options. I like the fact that it includes a speeder bike. It also gets bonus points for having Cade Bane and FACE/OFF mode Obi-Wan.

#4 – TIE-Fighter and X-Wing Mashup (75393)

This amazing set has shown up on a few of my lists, and I love it. Now, you might be asking yourself how this is a pirate set; after all, it’s too classic Rebel and Empire ships. Well, this is actually a stealth pirate set. See, the mash-up action lets you swap wings on the ships, turning them into Uglies. And these kit-bashed ships ARE a staple of pirate fleets post Galactic Civil War.

#3 – The Onyx Cinder (75374)

You can’t talk about pirates these days and not talk about Skelton Crew. And you can’t talk about Skelton Crew without the Onyx Cinder. This is a legendary pirate ship in universe and central to the whole show. The LEGO set is super cool with an interior and rotating thrusters. It’s also bristling with cannons and turrets and comes with the main cast of the show (though not SM-33, which is a real shame).

#2 – Jabba’s Sail Barge UCS (75397)

Another recent addition to the line up, we have the massive Jabba’s Sail Barge UCS edition. This is a huge ship with a ton of details and full interior. It’s got really nice detailing and a bunch of mini-figs. There is little to not like here. I did a whole long write up of the set recently if you want more info.

#1 – LEGO Pirate Tank (7753-1)

This is an old classic set from way back in 2009. It recreates the Pirate Tank featured in the Clone Wars (and yes, I’m counting a hover tank as a pirate ship, sue me).

It’s a nifty little set and hits the right notes for me. It really does bring the tank to life. But you might wonder why it’s here on number one, as there are clearly better sets on the list. Well… that’s because it’s the set that gets you the Hondo Ohnaka minifig. As Hondo is the best pirate, and this is the only set he ever came with, it must be the best pirate set. I rest my case.
