MtG: $2.2 Million 1st Edition Artist Proof Collection Up For Auction
This massive Magic: The Gathering auction includes signed sketch cards and a Black Lotus artist proof signed by Christopher Rush.
Magic: The Gathering cards have pulled in big bucks from collectors in the past. The One Ring famously sold for $2 million to Post Malone after it was found; that record high was beaten by a 1993 Black Lotus that sold for $3 million last year. The single cards don’t hold a candle to this collection being offered on eBay right now.
There are a ton of sketch and artist proofs here, and all of them are signed by the artist. It’s a one-of-a-kind collection.
What’s In This MtG Auction?
The seller is offering a collection of first edition (or Beta APs) artist proofs that took nearly twenty years to collect. If you’re unfamiliar, APs are rare blank back cards that can’t be used in tournaments.
This MtG auction lot includes 302 cards, all signed by the original artists, including Richard Thomas, Kev Brockschmidt, Tom Wänerstrand, and Quinton Hoover. There are several high-priced cards in the collection – Choas Orb, Copy Artifact, Mox Saphire, and Mox Ruby are all in the top twenty most valuable MtG cards.
Most of the cards are ungraded, but the collection is super rare and includes 22 matte-back cards. The list of cards being offered can be found here. Some of the final art next to the sketches done on the back of each…
The collection includes a mint Black Lotus artist proof card with Christopher Rush’s numbered signature on the back. This is the only card the seller is willing to separate from the collection – for the right price.
“This Lotus AP is not comparable to other non-numbered examples. It is the best of the best.”
