Break out the crushed velvet; Blades ’68 takes the setting of Blades in the Dark and makes it into a 60s-themed thriller.

Blades in the Dark’s core setting is the industrial city of Doskvol. Swept up in the midst of an industrial revolution full of ghosts, demons, and electrostatic weaponry that makes doing crimes easier than ever, it is a gritty, dark fantasy city. A new RPG, from the designer of Deathmatch Island will catapult Doskvol forward 100 years, into the swinging ’60s.

This new supplement adapts and changes the setting, giving players new options to play with. From spy thrillers to crime dramas to punks and counterculture revolutionaries, there’s a whole new world of themes to explore. And you can sign up to playtest today! Queue up the music. You know the one.

Blades ’68 – Getting Groovy And Unearthing Espionage

Part of what makes this so personally exciting to me is the promise of “shadowy espionage.” One day, I’ll get to see my dream of a spy thriller RPG that plays more like a LeCarre novel than a James Bond or other superspy-type movie. And Blades in the Dark might just be the vehicle for that.

Here’s the blurb from the 15-page playtest preview you can find on DriveThruRPG:

“Blades ’68 is an official supplement for Blades in the Dark, moving the timeline forward 100 years to the swinging 60s.

Progress is here, but only for some. War may be over, but the shadowy game of espionage has never been more heated. Discontent bubbles under the surface and threatens to erupt at any time in any place. They’ve tried to tell you that the future has arrived and everything is fine now, that it’s not the time to make a fuss. But you know better. You’re a scoundrel, a chancer, a troublemaker. You know the streets and you’re not afraid of danger.

The moment is now, everything you’ve dreamed of is within reach.”

All that adds up to a recipe for a delicious new spin on Blades in the Dark. You can sign up for the playtest below, as well as check out the free preview on DriveThruRPG.

See you in Doskvol, cats!
