Secret Hitler is a social deduction game where a small group of fascists are not-so-secretly trying to undermine the government to their totalitarian ways.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that fascists are bad people. They want total control and use suppression of ideas and militaristic force to maintain a deathgrip control over any dissenters. And in Secret Hitler, the good guys are trying to find the fascists secretly hiding among the group. Meanwhile, the fascists are trying to use manipulation, cheating, and underhanded tactics to achieve their widely unpopular fascist policies.

Secret Hitler Overview

In Secret Hitler, players are divided into two teams, Liberals and Fascists. The Liberals are the good guys, and the Fascists are the bad guys. However, everyone’s team is secret, and only the Fascists know who the other Fascists are. But, also, one player is the secret Hitler.

The game ends in a number of ways. If either team can enact 5 of their type of policy, they win. However, if secret Hitler is ever elected chancellor while enough fascist policy is enacted, the fascists will also win.

At the beginning of each round of Secret Hitler, one player will be President, their job is to nominate a Chancellor. Then, players collectively vote on the nomination. If the vote fails, the Presidential powers are given to the next in line and another vote for Chancellor begins. If the Chancellor vote is passed, a new policy will be enacted.

Fascism is Bad

The President draws 3 policy cards, which could be liberal (the good ones) or fascist (the bad ones). The President secretly looks at the cards, and discards one without showing anyone. Then, the President passes the cards to the Chancellor, who does the same. The remaining policy card is enacted.

If it’s a liberal policy, everyone is happy, because that’s how the good guys win. And the fascists have to pretend to be happy, because they know their policies are bad and unpopular. But if a fascist policy is enacted, everyone will argue over what went wrong. Because who, in their right mind, would ever willingly enact fascist policy? Only bad people would do that.

However, fascists never play fair and will use anything to get what they need to gain power. The government power grows as more fascist policies are enacted. This could allow them to spy on their citizens, or even assassinate a potentially innocent citizen, or a political rival. That’s the danger of allowing fascist policy.

The game is over once either team has exacted 5 of their own policies or Hitler is elected Chancellor with more then 2 fascist policies. Hopefully, the liberals wins, since they are the good guys. And everyone who played on the fascist team feels bad about having to pretend to be such an awful person.

But, at the end of the day, Secret Hitler is just a game. A fun game about something that happened a long time ago, that we all agree would be terrible if it happened again. Good thing Secret Hitler is just a game.
