Warhammer 40K: Astra Militarum – Detachments & More Rules Reveals
The Astra Militarum are known to bring the boom and the new codex is no exception. Get ready to call down artillery support with these new detachment rules.
Get ready for the Guard because the Astra Militarum is gearing up to roll. They have a new codex and today we’re getting a look at a few of the rules coming down the pipe. It’s a whole lot of big booms coming when they get to the tabletop!
The Astra Militarum have as many approaches to war as they do enemies in a hostile galaxy. Codex: Astra Militarum expands your options in combat with four new Detachments, adding to the Combined Arms Detachment from the Index and the Bridgehead Strike Detachment we unwrapped in the Grotmas Calendar.
Astra Militarum Detachments
First up, there will be four new detachments in the new Codex. That’s on top of the ones we currently have. Here’s the ones we know are coming:
- Mechanised Assault
- Hammer of the Emperor
- Siege Regiment
- Recon Element
Rules-wise, Artillery Support from the Siege Regiment is getting a bit of a showcase here. They are getting a few useful rules to help wise generals pound the enemy from a safe distance.
Look out for those different fire support options from the guard! If anything, these should make the enemy want to close the gap as quick as possible. But that’s probably a trap…
Following that detachment, we’re also getting a look at the Recon Element rule Masters of Camouflage:
Having a bunch of camo should help with their saves. I wonder what folks will come-up with for these various units. Additionally, we’re also getting a look at some key stratagems for these two detachments as well.
Remember how I mentioned that getting close to the Siege Regiment was a trap? Well that’s where that minefield comes into play. Nasty stuff!
The Recon Element does have some interesting options as well. I think the Scramble Field could really throw a wrench in the opponent’s plans. And I hope you’re busting out the mounted units, too!
Having a unit leave the battlefield off the edge is one thing. Having them arrive from Strategic Reserves is a nice surprise!
All of these new tactics that are available to Astra Militarum players do sound interesting. I wonder if these will be enough to sway players into trying them instead of some of the more tried and true methods. You know the ones.
The Classic “What if I just brought more tanks” strategy.
What do you think of these new detachment rules?
