Warhammer 40K: Ranking the 10th Edition Aeldari Phoenix Lords
Goatboy here to rank the new 10th Edition Codex Aeldari Phoenix Lords. We have six of them currently that are usable so let’s break them down from the “worst” to the best. All of them are pretty interesting and few will be showing up in peoples armies these next few months. Let’s get to the list.
6. Maugan Ra – Dark Reapers Phoenix Lord
I don’t know what crimes Mr. Ra is paying for but his rules just don’t match up his crazy looking goth boyfriend of a model. He doesn’t shoot enough with his gun that while it has Devastating Wounds it just doesn’t have enough attacks to make it truly scary. He ignores cover but wouldn’t it be more interesting to just see his AP be crazy high instead of this lackluster Strength 7, AP -2, and Damage 2? Why isn’t this Damage 3 like so many of the other weapons in this book. On top of that his “extra” abilities on his shooting is kind of lame. Yes you could do splash damage but it’s only 3″ from the initial targeted unit and only if everything shoots at that unit. On a 5+ you could give extra mortal wounds but this just seems like a weird effect that won’t do as much. On top of that he could cause a Battle shock to a unit hit by his gun at a -1 wound it still isn’t that cool.
5. Baharroth – Swooping Hawks Phoenix Lord
Look this guy is alright as he can redeploy anywhere but he just doesn’t have a ton of damage potential. His little laser gun will give you 4 wounds if you hit 4 times but at AP -1 it isn’t doing as much as you would like. He just feels like an interesting Uppy/downy piece you can use to score things but he just doesn’t seem to put out nearly as much damage as you would like. Still he will be annoying and depending on his final cost might show up.
4. Jain Zar – Howling Banshees Phoenix Lord
I like this model and think it has some use if you are playing some Banshees. The ability to give you an auto 6 for advance rolls followed by having a ton of attacks means this model is going to hit hard. The weapon has an Anti-Infantry 3+ with a -3 AP and flat 2 damage. She is going to kill a ton of Marines and even gets to reroll wounds if a character is in the unit she is attacking.
3. Asurmen – Dire Avengers Phoenix Lord
The real thing you can talk about with this model is that it can dish out a crap ton of damage 3 attacks. Yes he isn’t an Overwatch machine like before but now he is just a little murder ball if he gets close, unleashes hell, and then charges in with a pile of 3 damage attacks. The ability to move after shooting is huge too as anything that allows extra movement can be huge to get around the table, hide behind walls, and just be a pain in the butt.
2. Fuegan – Fire Dragons Phoenix Lord
Look this guy can stand back up, throws out a ton of damage, and has hands to punch you in the face. He has a Melta 6 gun too. This guy is going to kill things, probably get punked in return, and then stand back up to do it all again. Yeah he lost all his friends but this guy doesn’t care and will burn the smile off your face. If you roll a 1 to stand back up – well I am sorry but you are playing Aeldari and deserve it.
1 . Lhykis – Warp Spiders Phoenix Lord
Why is the newest Phoenix Lord number one? She moves so fast, can put out a ton of punishing damage, and then the ability to give the rest of your Aeldari army 5+ critical hits is huge. There is so many things that just love hitting better and she is going to be there dishing out the heat. Be ready to groan as she and her unit of Warp Spiders shoot across the table, cover you in sticky monofilament, and watch as you lose a ton of models on the table top.
Happy Craftworld gaming!
So sad…someone didn’t get invited to the party.
