Warhammer: The Old World – ‘Mystery Faction’ Coming

Games Workshop showed off the future of The Old World and what’s coming. But they also dropped a big hit something else is coming, too.

You gotta love the Las Vegas Open and all the cool reveals GW is dropping. However, one thing stood out for me from the Old World. We got all those High Elves which is cool — it’s basically the old range and it’s back. That’s neat! But we also got this cryptic teaser:

Clearly there’s a missing spot there under the “more to come” section. And here’s the thing: we already knew about those factions. That’s not new news. The core factions have been known since the relaunch of The Old World.

So what we DO know is that there’s a mystery faction coming. That would make a 10th faction in the game. So who could that be? Well, the timeline isn’t complete* in the Old World but we have a rough idea. We know it’s set around the year 2276. To put that in perspective, that’s 250ish years before the End Times.

The point is, there’s roughly 200 years of “time” to play around with for the Old World before it becomes the previous “current” version of the World-That-Was (the pre-End Times of Warhammer Fantasy). It’s clearly a huge chunk of time to play in and for GW to expand and push ever closer to the OG Warhammer Fantasy Time. That said, based on the armies we have in the game and the ones that are missing, I think we can draw some conclusions. Or at least put together some likely suspects.

The Likely Suspects

My first guess? Kislev!

Does anyone else remember all that Kislev hype? These concept sketches are from way back when the Old World was first announced. I feel like everyone kind of just forgot about them…

I know eventually we’re leading up to the Siege of Praag…but that’s a ways off:

My next guess is Dark Elves. While I don’t have any real reason, I just know that the Elves are pretty long-lived. I’m not entirely sure why they aren’t already in the game either. But I’m sure there’s some lore reason and I just missed. I mean, we got Chaos Warriors and barbarians to the north, right? Where are the Dark Elves at?

My last guess is Lizard Men. Again don’t have a good reason for them either. But I figure GW probably has a lot of those old molds sitting in storage. So, why not?!

Anyhow, if you’ve got any other armies you’d like to see brought back let us know in the comments! Heck, it could be the Vampire Counts…who really knows!

*Well, technically, it’s complete it’s just not fully revealed and fleshed out for our purposes.
