‘Warhammer: The Old World’- What We Want Out Of 2025

As Warhammer: The Old World moves into it’s second year, it’s time to take a look at what we want to see moving forward from GW.

2024 is all done and wrapped up. We’ve seen what it had to offer and over all it was good. After all it bought our beloved game back to us! But now we are moving into 2025 and the second year of The Old World. At the start of last year we took at a look at what we wanted out of the first year of ToW, and we got some of those things in the end. The more stretch-y goals we didn’t see, and there are even some good reasons for that. Indeed we did got some answers on those fronts. But now it’s time to look forward and talk about what we’d like to see come in 2025 and ToW’s second year.

The Release of The Final Armies

This week sees the release of Empire back into the wild. That marks six of the nine core armies released in the first year of the game. While it’s frustrating to not have your full army, or be able to really buy models for it, that’s actually a very good rate. We do know that High Elves are coming next and can hope for them in a few months. That only leaves Wood Elves and Beastmen to come. While they haven’t been officially announced we can be pretty sure they are the next two releases (unless GW continues it’s tradition of overlooking Wood Elves!). The key question on them of course is timing, and we are really hoping to see them both this year.

We Want To See What’s After The Armies

Of course once the armies are all out what we really want to see is what’s next! In a lot of way’s that’s more exciting as it’s a big unknown. Getting all the core armies out is also a big hurtle as it means that at that point the core parts of the game will be “fully” out. Now I know a lot of people want more armies after the core nine. Either Kislev and Cathy or the Legends. However I don’t think we are going to see either of those in 2025. GW has said that they don’t really have any current plans to bring any of those armies into the game right now. Even if they do want to add Kislev and Cathy I think that’s years off.

That being said we are still going to be getting books. And the designers have hinted at plans to move the timeline along and tell some kind of grand story here. So I think the most likely thing we will see is some sort of campaign books (they might also be called Arcane Journals) that add more things to the existing armies. I’m thinking of more named heroes and armies of infamy, and maybe units and other things. There’s a lot to be done here and in particular I think Armies of Infamy are one of the best ideas in ToW.

Better Product Availability

It’s no secret that it can sometimes be a bit hard to actually buy the models for the game.  The Old World, and GW games in general, have had some kind of spotty supply issues over the past few years. A lot of models are often out of stock everywhere. While these shortages normally are on the shorter side, there are some popular models that seem impossible to get. On top of that a lot of super cool ToW models are made to order with a very short release window.

Now GW is supposed to be spooling up more production with new factories, so hopefully this will all get better. I’d really love if in 2025 supply we see supply increases,  and you could get what you wanted. It would also be nice if they will periodically bring back some of the MtO models.

More FAQs And Fixes

ToW is a quite playable game right now, but it still has some issues. It also has a number of open questions that are heavily debated. The game does have a pretty good FAQ, but it clearly needs more. I’m hoping 2025 will see a few more rounds of FAQs to iron things out and make it a more clear game. I think it could also be a good time to take a look at the game, a year in, and see if there are any actual changes/fixes needed, such as making infantry a bit more viable.

More New Models

We all love models. And units. And we all hoped for that ToW would give us new models, not just old ones. Well, its been OK on that. Most of the army releases have at least given us a couple new models. They’ve also helped this out by re-releasing some very rare and/or older models that to a lot of people are basically new. However almost all the new models we’ve seen have been new character models of one sort or another. We’ve haven’t really gotten a lot the classic multipart unit kits, the new Bretonnian Foot Knights are a major stand out there. So in 2025 I’d really like to see some new models. But in particular I want some nice new plastic unit kits. Please?
