I know I won’t shut up about the Pandemic system. It’s just been on my mind a lot lately. We’ve been covering games like Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship and Reign of Cthulhu, both of which use the Pandemic system. It’s just a really solid foundation for so many different games! And the World of Warcraft entry is certainly just as great.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Overview
If you’re brand new to the Pandemic system, the main thing to know is there’s a map with different places. Each round, the places will get filled with bad stuff. If there’s too much bad stuff in any one place, a bad thing happens. So, the players must work together to keep the places from getting filled with bad stuff until they can prevent the bad stuff from happening at all. Make sense?
But each entry in the Pandemic system library adds new mechanics and systems on top of the new theme. Obviously, in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the theme is fighting of hoards of undead scourge. The undead will pop up in various iconic locations around Azeroth and the players must venture around, quelling the scourge where ever they rise.
Of top of that, new mechanics are added in this version to the tune of quests, combat, and boss fights. Players will need to battle against the undead, using their hero powers to turn the tide in their favor. As the war rages on, they’ll need to complete quests in order to gain access to Northrend. There, they’ll face off against the fallen prince himself, and hopefully finally put a stop to the Lich King’s wacky antics.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is a great, fun adventure for anyone, regardless of if they are fans of the Warcraft series of not, and similarly if this is their first Pandemic title or not. It’s quick to set up and a blast to play.
