CMON: Massive Darkness TTRPG

Massive Darkness is a dungeon-crawling board game that gives every character special abilities in the darkness. It features its own unique fantasy world, and now it’s available as a roleplaying game.

The TTRPG features the Massive Darkness Bestiary, which lays out stats for more than 50 creatures from the game’s lore. It also includes various species from which you can create your character.

There’s also an Adventurer’s Guide, which includes “a sandbox campaign setting module including new backgrounds, magic items, traveling rules, a gazetteer filled with locations, hazards, NPCs and hooks, and ‘Raiders of the Lost Dawn,’ an engaging, modular campaign adventure for both new and expert players who want to delve into the depths of Shadowreach.”

Massive Darkness Quickstart Guide

Last week, CMON and DriveThruRPG released the Massive Darkness Quickstart Guide, which includes a short adventure, pre-generated characters, and a preview of new species appearing in the bestiary.

The Quickstart Guide offers an introduction to the world of Massive Darkness and the Shadowreach—a vast subterranean continent brimming with rich lore, ancient history, fearsome monsters, hidden treasures, and untold opportunities.

Some creatures spotted in the Dungeons of Shadowreach include dark elves, deep gnomes, mushroom creatures, bugbears, and more.

A street date for CMON’s Massive Darkness TTRPG has yet to be announced. The latest board game expansion, which includes the TTRPG as a pledge option, was fully funded less than an hour after its launch. If you want to experience the adventure, it’s still open to backers. The RPG pledge is only $50 for physical and digital copies and any RPG stretch goals.
