Build the epic taxi chase scene in Fifth Element and more ’90s movie moments with these LEGO throwback challenge sets—voting is open now!

The IDEAS staff has sorted through hundreds of entries to highlight five LEGO throwback sets. These are now up for a fan vote. The Grand Prize Winner will see their build turned into a set, so if you want to build it, make sure you let LEGO know.

To truly honor the 90s, we’ve crafted two exciting challenges that capture the era’s diverse and rich movie and TV scenes. After all, the 90s were a vibrant mix of everything – from blockbuster hits to cult classics, action-packed adventures to heartfelt dramas. We’ve closed the intake phase for “The Opening Act.” challenge, and we’re now premiering the next exciting sequel – “The Next Chapter”. Whether you’re inspired by TV shows or legendary films, we can’t wait to see how YOU capture the 90s entertainment spirit with LEGO bricks!

Edward Scissorhands

Build Edward’s creepy home on a hill with this 4,900 pieces set with a fully decorated interior, seven minifigs (including Tim Burton with a camera), and some key scenes from the movie. Recreate the moment the inventor gifts Edward his hands, the enchanting scene of the creation of Kim in ice, as well as the landscaped grounds.

This could be the largest LEGO IDEAS set if it gets enough votes.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – The Sunnydale HS Library

This LEGO throwback set is filled with easter eggs from the show that are sure to delight fans—to start:

  • Eggs, from Bad Eggs (Season 2, episode 12)
  • Pom-poms from Witch (Season 1, episode 3)
  • Crystals from Helpless (Season 3, episode 12)
  • Mask from Dead Man’s Party (Season 3, episode 2)
  • Spiders from Choices (Season 3, episode 13)
  • Rat from Gingerbread (Season 3, episode 11)
  • Floppy disc from Becoming Part 1 (Season 2, episode 21)

Also included among the library’s stacks are minifigs of Buffy, Giles, Willow, Angel, and Xander.

The X-Files

This double-decker set includes Mulder’s cluttered office and an encounter with an extra-terrestrial ship and other strange life forms. The two FBI agents are joined by Assistant Director Walter Skinner, The Smoking Man, as well as a Grey Alien, the Jersey Devil, and Eugene Tooms. There are a bunch of fun in-jokes for fans in this LEGO throwback set.

Jumanji

This 1610-piece brick-built board game opens to reveal the Parrish family house, complete with its jungle-filled living room and monkey-infested kitchen. This is a game, so it comes with dice and tokens along with six minifigs from the movie.

The Fifth Element

Go on a high-speed cab chase with this diorama that incorporates scenes from the beloved sci-fi movie. Build Leeloo’s epic jump and then open the scene to reveal Korben’s apartment, Leeloo’s creation chamber, Zorg’s office, and Vito Cornelius’ home on a minifig scale. Speaking of minifigs, there are six characters—Leeloo gets two outfits.

Korben’s flying taxi is designed in the “Speed Champions” size and has a removable hood. It fits both Korben and Leeloo.
