Star Wars: Shatterpoint – Director Krennic Rules Preview
Director Orson Krennic is coming to Star Wars: Shatterpoint and he’s bringing some friends. What will he do on the tabletop!?
Director Krennic takes the field and today we’re getting a look at his rules in Star Wars: Shatterpoint!
“Orson Krennic served as the director of the Imperial Military Department of Advanced Weapons Research and spearheaded the development and construction of the Death Star superweapon. In that capacity, he weaponized kyber crystals and controlled his scientific staff to maximize the destructive capacity of the superweapon while also maintaining strict secrecy. Part of his responsibilities were quelling rumors of the superweapon’s existence through any means necessary, which he executed successfully for the two decades of its secretive development.”

Coming in with 9SP and 2 Force Points, Krennic is really a presence on the battlefield. While he’s not a combat junkie himself, he still commands with confidence. The troopers under his command will execute his orders. Deploy the Garrison is proof of that. This grants a supporting Stormtrooper unit a dash followed up with a hunker token AND a 5 die attack. Krennic brings versatility with him as well. Since this applies to Stormtrooper Supporting units, you can always find the right tool for the job.
One of Krennic’s most powerful abilities is Your Concerns Are Hardly Warranted. While it does cost 2 Force Points, this could literally save you the game. It prevents an enemy from gaining a momentum for Wounding a unit. That could quite literally swing the game for you when it’s close. As for the rest of this abilities you can see them above. For now, we’re going to jump to his two combat stances. The reason is that they both can change how his big Identity ability works.
While Krennic isn’t exactly a frontline fighter he’s also a lot more that a desk jockey. His High Aspirations stance has a 8 die melee attack and some versatile options on the damage track. His Arrogance stance might have less dice to throw but the damage output is respectable. You also just have to commit to the track you’re on. So choose wisely.
Director Krennic seems like a good Primary Unit option and rewards smart planning. But I think his access to all those Squad Points is also going to be great for list building with him. His squad pack does come with both Death Troopers and Shoretroopers. AMG showed off the Shoretroopers with this preview so let’s see what they can do.
Shoretroopers in Shatterpoint
A supporting unit that costs 4PC, the Shoretroopers make for a solid defensive unit. For starters they have Defensive Maneuver. While it does cost a Force Point, it allows them to make a dash and then gain a hunker token. Their other Force costing ability is For The Empire. This is an action that pushes an enemy range 2 away and gives them an Exposed special condition. This is a sneaky move to shove an unit off an objective. The bonus is that the target is now open to even more incoming fire.
The Shoretroopers have a nice damage track that has consistent damage output. It’s also got some healing you can dip into if you need it. Again, this seems like a great unit for holding an objective but one that is also able to go out and take some ground if the situation calls for it.
