Goatboy here with my tactics and strategies to use when you face off versus the all new Warhammer 40K 10th Edition Aeldari!

It’s gonna be a wild few weeks as we wait for Codex Aeldari to come out, get played with a bunch, and figure out how busted they end up being.  They will be busted a bit, no matter what Reddit says as so far their rules let them do just about everything you could ever want in a 40K army.  They are fast, hit hard, and can score missions all day long.

Against the Aeldari

Those are great things for someone that plays Aeldari.  But what about the people that aren’t going to play Aeldari?  What are we going to do?  How will we shift our game play to try and match up with 10th Edition’s pointy-earred space menace coming down to our neoprene tabletops? Well, there are a few things we can do and while not all of it is going to work all the time we can still present a strong challenge.  Let’s dig into the basics on how as a non-Aeldari player can deal with Aeldari.  I don’t think it will be easy but at least we got a chance.

Assertively Manage Your Scoring

First, the big thing is to recognize what you can score and when you can score during the game.  This is important as you need to keep pace with whatever the opponent is scoring to ensure you keep up.  This matters in how you look at your mission card drawing and availability of resources to score those important points.  The Aeldari are always going to have options to get somewhere to get points so thinking you can blank some of their options by hiding is not always going to win you the game.

Trade Your Units Purposefully, Efficiently, Ruthlessly

Second is to make sure any trades you give them you are able to get enough in return.  I know this is a hard thing to always think about. But the game is as much about killing as it is about trading something to create a gap.  Just having options you can “sacrifice” will a lot of the time force the opponent to get blood thirsty and pounce on something which leaves them open. The Aeldari move so fast and hit so hard and are very opportunistic. Plan your unit trades ahead of time when you are able and implement that plan.

When You Hit Them, Put Them Down

Third is you have the ability to put out a lot of damage to ensure destruction on your targets.  This could be things in the range of having weapons you can’t hide from, options that move too fast to dodge, or just other methods to wreck the Aeldari.  They will most likely have less models than a lot of other armies out there due to their nature of being elite and deadly.  This means any kind of haymaker you throw at them will have to hurt them.  A glass cannon is only a glass cannon if you can break them apart.  If they survive your punch back then was it all worth it to expose your army to them?

Closing Aeldari Thoughts

I know a lot of these things are things seasoned players know about.  You know the ebb and flow of the game and their skills are why some armies that look meh on paper still work on the tabletop.  It is also why this game has felt more balanced as of late with a lot of different armies winning.  Right now will have to wait and see the true points on this army as again if it has too much on the table where they can throw away units and still be effective we have to ask some questions on how will survive.

Are you excited for the new Aeldari codex?  Are you starting a whole new army?  I know I got an order to paint some so you will see some Eldar showing up on my Instagram soon enough.  Right now I am in the wait and see band with hopefully my push towards board control armies giving me enough presence to hold the board and keep these fast little jerks at by.

Respect, but do not fear the Aeldari!
