A rare and very un-elf like miniature is returning to Warhammer: The Old World. The Merwyrm is coming back to the tabletop.

I’m not sure how to feel about this one. Is it neat that Games Workshop reached back in the vault and pulled out a blast from the past? Yes. But the Merwyrm? Sure. Let’s do this.

The Merwyrms are distant, watery cousins of the dragons, among the most ancient beasts in the Old World. The Sea Lords sometimes summon and bind them to their will, letting them loose writhe in battle, battering and eviscerating the foe with their heavy bulk and sharp claws – a dark, watery foil to the nobility of the dragons above.

The Merwyrm Returns

The last time we saw the Merwyrm was over a decade ago from Forge World. Well, this kit is back now and is recast in Forge World resin once again. And, once again, the High Elves are going to get to add this one to their army lists. There is a requirement to bring a regiment of Lothern Sea Guard along side it. Someone needs to manage this beast!

However, if you can manage to wrangle this beast, you’ll have a potent ally on the field. The Merwyrm has four attacks at S6 and WS6 so it’s going to hit hard. It’s tough to take out thanks to it’s Abyssal Cloak. Additionally, it’s got Enfeebling Cold to help curb the strength of attacks against it as well.

This is certainly a choice to bring this beast back to The Old World along side the High Elf army. I wonder what else they will bring along when their new Arcane Tome lands. Hopefully we’ll see even more old school miniatures from Forge World arrive with the High Elf army, too.

What ancient beasts would you like to see the High Elves get for The Old World?
