Pathfinder: ‘NPC Core’ Arrives – Bringing Friends, Foes, And Rivals To Lovers To Your Tabletop

The Pathfinder NPC Core book will enrich the way you handle NPCs in your game. Rules for relationships, new stat blocks, and more!
Pathfinder has a new big splat just out for wide release—the NPC Core. This book covers all things non-playable characters. Part bestiary, part rules expansion, it’s an in-depth resource for roleplay and combat. You’ll find new NPCs and new ways to use them.
This includes a numerical scale that tracks how much an NPC loves or hates your character. As well, there are rules for tracking the arc of a relationship. Whether it’s from rivals to lovers or friends to foes. Which should be handy for recurring NPCs that the players don’t immediately kill.
You’ll have to contrive your own scenarios for how—say, after a storm an NPC and their rival PC have to share a room with only one bed in it. Or whatever romantasy trope floats your boat these days. But that’s the fun of RPGs. That and watching the tragedy unfold as you watch friends turn into bitter enemies. And an NPC that was once “Bonded” becomes “Vindictive” and eventually the two former friends settle the score in a rooftop duel in the rain.
It’s always rain, for some reason.

You’ll also find a trove of NPCs specific to non-human ancestries, like a dwarf general, goblin get-gang, and kobold egg guardian.
