The Death Troopers are marching onward to the tabletops of Star Wars: Shatterpoint. It’s the Galactic Empire’s Elite!

We already got a look at Director Krennic and the Shore Troopers. But now we’re getting a closer look at the rules for the Death Troopers from the Deploy the Garrison Squad Pack. These are the intimidating black-clad elite troopers of the Empire. There’s a limited number of them and they are ready to get the job done. So let’s see exactly how they will complete their missions.

Death Trooper Specialist

First up we have the Secondary Unit from the box. The Death Trooper Specialist clocks in at 5PC to bring on board. But being a Secondary Unit he’s got a lot of heavy lifting to do. Luckily, he’s got his Elite Conditioning to fall back on. He’s also got a nasty combo with Oppression and Imperial Brutality. It’s a good way to slap an enemy unit with either Strained or Pinned and then also hit them with an Expose. Just be sure you’ve got someone else ready to follow-up on the target.

Combat-wise the Death Trooper Specialist is suited for both ranged and melee combat. He deals plenty of damage but can also mix it up with some more supportive options on the track. Don’t discount getting those two shoves on only two successes on the lower track!

Death Troopers

The Death Troopers can also be taken as a Supporting Unit. This one will cost you 4PC to bring along. The good news is that they are going to be worth the cost as they also have the same Elite Training that the Death Trooper Specialist has. They have a very strange version of Supporting Fire. Instead of adding more damage or firepower with an ally attack, they actually allow an allied Galactic Empire unit to make a dash as long as they were within range 5.

Why would you want to do this? Well, you could have a Primary Character up front that needs to fall back into their Protective Detail. If they can get within Range 2, that Primary Character will have Cover [1] which can be very beneficial for their survivability.

Damage output wise, their tracks are different from Specialist, but follow a similar path. The top track adds in the damage while the bottom mixes in some extra effects. They are better at ranged than melee, but they aren’t slouches in either.

If you’re looking to score your own Death Troopers for Star Wars: Shatterpoint they will be available this coming April. They are up for pre-order right now.
