Birds, dragons, and now fish. Finspan is the latest addition to the Span series of games and is being hailed as the best one yet!
When Wingspan was released, it was an immediate hit. It flew off the shelves! And now you can really get your feet wet with this latest iteration of the series, Finspan!
Finspan Overview
Like each of the Span games, Finspan is an engine builder. Players will each compete to build their own set of cards that will create a positive feedback loop of generating more resources and points, hopefully faster than the other players.
The game takes place over 4 weeks. That’s in-game time, not real-time. Don’t worry. In each week, players will dive into the depths of the ocean to collect eggs to bring to their fishery. They’ll add new fish to their collection, and hatch eggs to nurture into many bright young schools of fishes.
After the 4 in-game weeks are up, the game ends. The players count up their points from fish, eggs, young, schools, and other achievements. The player with the most points is crowned The Almighty Fish Sovereign. That’s not in the rulebook or anything, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing it anyway.
Fans of Wingspan and Wyrmspan will note the many similarities between this and those. Many new mechanics keep the game from being more than just a simple retheme. This entry in the series is for a wider audience. It’s meant to be more accessible as an entry-level game.
So if you’ve been loving Wingspan but a little hesitant to bring it to your game night with your non gamer friends, Finspan might be the perfect way to go.
