It’s March, and that means that the new patch for Total War: Warhammer 3 is just around the corner. With it, a big Kislev overhaul.

Total War: Warhammer 3 has a big Kislev overhaul in it works for the upcoming Patch 6.1, expected sometime in mid-March. The lands might be frozen, but things are heating up for the Ice Court.

A recent dev blog outlines some of the incoming changes. It sounds like the beleaguered forces will get some much needed attention with developers giving them a “deep review and rethink.” Does this mean, at last, you can have bears that ride around on bears?

Probably not. But, we can dream of the all-bear Kislev strike team. In the meantime, here’s a look at what’s in store.

Kislev Overhaul Planned for Total War: Warhammer 3 – Patch 6.1

It should go without saying – but this is a Work In Progress

Think of this as Kislev 2.0—because the developers certainly are. They aren’t focusing on any one specific faction or force within Kislev, but rather tackling them as a whole. This means some reworked core features, starting with the whole Court & Orthodoxy.

Now, instead of it being a race to see who gets the most followers first, Kislev players are encouraged to seek unity in the face of mounting Chaos. This means you can curry favor with both the Orthodoxy and the Ice Court as a means of “secondary progression.”

“In the new system, you will accrue support for either side of the [Court v Orthodoxy] conflict via a variety of actions, including fielding relevant units, using thematically aligned agents, constructing buildings and dedicating your atamans. As you raise your support, you will receive boons from these major factions, presenting you a secondary progression mechanic that lets you get powerful benefits.

A key change here however is that this is no longer a race, instead supporting only one side of the conflict can cause rising unrest, and invite disorder into Kislev. In the face of the growing threat of chaos, Kislev must seek unity. Therefore players are encouraged to balance the support they curry for each of the factions, you may favor one, but favoring them too strongly incurs the wrath of the other.”

That should make for an interesting campaign, for sure. Now you’ll be balancing what you get from the Ice Court and the Orthodoxy with the potential unrest in your territories. Devotion is also getting an overhaul. As is the Kislev tech tree, pictured above.

So get ready to revisit Kislev more in the coming weeks!
