The Soulblight Gravelords are getting a new Deathrattle Army Set and Games Workshop is showing off their rules.

With the AdeptiCon previews and yesterday being April 1st, this one slipped through the cracks. We’re here to fix that today. The Deathrattle Army set is a good way to jump into Age of Sigmar. These rules look solid! Let’s get into them.

“Now in thrall to the Soulblight Gravelords, they rise in the forthcoming Deathrattle Army Set, which will be available for pre-order on Saturday. Much remains the same for this army of all-powerful vampires and the ranks of the dead they wield, but they have learned a few tricks despite Nagash’s love of stasis.”

Deathrattle Army Rules Preview

First up, we’ve seen teasers for these already but the new Ancient Burial Sites are an important feature of the army.

This is a really interesting piece of terrain as it comes on to the board in different steps. Note the timing on this setup! What they do on the tabletop battlefield relates to Manifestations and rallying points for the Rising Dead. Units that start the battle in the grave (basically off-board) can deploy from them later. It’s a good way to take space and have that threat your enemy has to consider for the game.

Next up we have the Barrow Knights and their rules:

Just having a 5+ Ward for being near a hero is a nice boost for both units. Furthermore, this is a unit your enemy really needs to wipe out in one go. Otherwise, they just come back with the Cursed To Rise Once More rule. Good luck taking them all out with that 5+ Ward. Oh and you don’t want to get charged by them either. They have Crit (Mortal) and Charge (+1 Damage) on their Barrow Lances.

Speaking of heroes nearby, why not bring a Wight King on Skeletal Steed. Turns out that’s exactly what you’re getting in the army set so…bring him!

He’s no slouch and a perfect leader to accompany those Barrow Knights. It’s almost like GW planned it…

With the Rend and the Curse to armor saves, the Wight King and his Barrow Knights are a mean one-two combo. If you’re looking to add some skeletal cavalry to your Death Army this box is perfect for you! The Deathrattle Army Set is coming soon and the Soulblight Gravelords are prepparing for war.

The Dead don’t rest easy in the Mortal Realms.
