Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is here at last, and it’s ready to change the way you play Larian Studios’ masterpiece. Get ready.

It’s time to head down, down, down by the river once again to start a new playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 now that the final major update, patch 8, has released. This new patch is a big one. Not only does it contain a literal dozen new subclasses, offering a whole new way to play your favorite class (or combo of classes), it also adds several major features to the game. And even that’s not all of it.

There are so many notes you might be lost in the weeds for days. Even with the full patch notes, I doubt we’ll have really discovered everything added/updated in this patch for a while yet. After all, more than a year later, people are still discovering new things about Baldur’s Gate 3, like the magic sheep known as Harvard Willoughby.

Baldur’s Gate 3 – Patch 8 a Fond Farewell

Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 adds several major features, as mentioned. But what are those features? Well here’s the briefest of overview:

  • Crossplay – now you can play with friends on PC, Console, or Mac, though some limitations are in place, for instance you can only use 100 mods (which is still plenty) and console player’s can’t use 3rd party mods
  • Photo Mode – Baldur’s Gate 3 is gorgeous. You probably have a photo mode mod already – but now there’s an official photo mode with camera setting, new poses, facial expressions and more
  • 12 New Subclasses – A dozen new ways to play, including the Path of Giant Barbarian, College of Glamour Bard, Death Domain Cleric, Circle of Stars Druid, Arcane Archer Fighter, Drunken Master Monk, Oath of the Crown Paladin, Swarmkeeper Ranger, Swashbuckler Rogue, Shadow Magic Sorcerer, Hexblade Warlock, and Bladesinging Wizard
  • Mod Toolkit Update – The Baldur’s gate 3 modding toolkit gets an update
  • UI Improvements – Some of your favorite UI mods have been integrated into the core tools in a good way
  • Gameplay Fixes – From containers inside inventories to updated Perception checks, there are tons of bug fixes
  • A Balancing Act – Many fights are harder now, especially in Honour Mode. NPCs may kill unconscious party members after doing a crime now.

But really, all of this is just touching on the many, many changes made in game. You can find a full list of patch notes here. But why read them when you could instead be creating the perfect Tav?

This time, definitely not going to just play a Paladin again!
