D&D: The ‘Dragon Delves’ Pre-Order Bonus Battle Begins
Dragon Delves is an upcoming new adventure anthology for D&D 5.5E – and we live in a world where pre-order bonuses matter.
Pre-order bonuses were once the exclusive realm of video games, but now they’re everywhere. And while the old gaming wisdom of, “don’t pre-order, wait until the thing comes out and you can see if you like it” holds true now more than ever, so too does the saying “yeah but what are you gonna do, not pre-order it?”
And whatever your feelings about pre-ordering and the bonuses associated therewith, the fact of the matter is, the pre-order battle has begun for Dragon Delves, the upcoming new adventure anthology with 10 different dragon-themed adventures for characters 1-12.
D&D Beyond has won out the virtual tabletop battle at WotC, with Sigil no more than a sunsetting app, destined to be shut down eventually. But Roll20 and Foundry and countless others are still going strong, and likely to keep going strong, despite no official association with Wizards of the Coast. So with that stage set, the various VTTs are offering a bid for your virtual attention.
If you want a physical book early, you’ll get nothing and like it, pleb. Nothing except actually owning the book and being able to use it without internet access, and nobody being able to revoke it if the software library gets shut down, the company changes ownership, or whatever else. I know which one I’d choose, but here are the Dragon Delves pre-order bonuses from around the web.
Dragon Delves Pre-Order Bonuses
First up, over at D&D Beyond, as you might expect the pre-order bonus is tied to the Digital + Physical bundle. This gets you the physical book (always a plus) as well as unlocking the compendium on D&D Beyond. But in addition, you’ll get the following bonuses:
- 5 additional digital maps
- 10 additional stickers
- Ancient Gold Dragon Digital Dice Set
Meanwhile, over at Roll20, today kicks off a wave of pre-order bonus reveals that are yours when you pre-order. Though each pre-order bonus, which is part of the “delver’s hoard” is only available for a short window, as Roll20 explains on its blog:
“We’re partnering with our fantastic Roll20 Marketplace and DMsGuild creators to bring you the Delver’s Hoard. When you pre-order Dragon Delves on Roll20, you’ll gain access to a series of free exclusive bonuses from top creators ready to use on your VTT. These bonuses drop every two weeks between now and launch day, July 8. Each bonus will feature maps, tokens, adventures, or tools – and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever!”
And first up are two books from the Monster Loot series by Anne Gregersen and Red Ink Caravan. These sourcebooks expand the loot you get frommonsters, as the name suggests, with updated treasure tals, as well as rules for harvesting dragon parts and crafting items with said part. These can be yours, free with pre-order, until April 27th.
