The World’s Largest Dungeon is returning from the early 2000s with a vengeance. And a writing/design contest, launching April 13th.

Twenty years ago, a behemoth of a campaign book, The World’s Largest Dungeon, set a record in the Guinness Book with its megadungeon of “unprecedented size and scope.” It was a vast, interconnected dungeon complex that was a world unto itself. Factions, civilizations, whole different tiers of play could all be found within. Truly a one-stop shop.

That was 20 years ago. Now the beast is set to return, freshly updated for modern D&D. And it’s about to get even bigger. Because today, Portals to Adventure, in partnership with World’s Largest RPGs and Strange Owl Games, announced the launch of its inaugural Secret Doors Contest.

The Secret Doors Contest wants to know what you would put behind a secret door. And it invites writers and designers from around the globe to submit their own addition to the dungeon, located behind a secret door, and not only win a prize, but get published in the upcoming World’s Largest Dungeon: Platinum Edition.

World’s Largest Dungeon Announces Secret Doors Contest – Even Bigger Dungeons To Follow

From the announcement:

What’s behind your secret door? Contestants are challenged to design a creative, 5E-compatible dungeon space that lies hidden behind a secret door: anything from a trapped vault to a forgotten lair, a cursed library, or a portal to a twisted demiplane. Submissions will be voted on by fans, with the top entries winning cash and publication.

All winning entries will be published in Secret Doors, Volume 1, an anthology of amateur and professional dungeon entries included with the World’s Largest Dungeon: Platinum Edition, set to release in 2025.”

A few quick things about the contest: first, no AI content permitted, which is already a great sign. Second, it opens April 13th and runs through July 2nd, when voting will begin. The top 10 winners will receive both a portion of the total prize money and also publication in the platinum edition.

Here’s what you’ll need to enter:

  • A written Secret Door adventure (up to 4,500 words)
  • A dungeon map (hand-drawn or digital)
  • A short video introducing themselves and their concept
  • A thumbnail image for fans to see whem browsing
