Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Five More Alternate Versions of Characters We Want

It’s time to tackle some more alternate versions of characters we want to see in Marvel: Crisis Protocol! This one has some heavy hitters.
One of the best things about Marvel: Crisis Protocol is the near limitless characters that Marvel Comics has. There’s tons of existing and popular characters in the main Marvel-616 universe to tap into. And even those characters have changed and had different powers or costumes or tweaks over time. We’ve already seen that Atomic Mass Games isn’t against creating a character based on a specific moment in their history. And we’ve barely scratched the surface on the different variants from other dimensions. So here’s a few more alternate versions of characters we want on the tabletop!
Age of Apocalypse Wolverine
I don’t think I need to get into ALL his backstory. But this is a version of Wolverine from the Age of Apocalypse from Earth-295. In this twisted reality Charles Xavier was killed before the X-Men were ever formed. That caused some…ripples. The long and short of this is that we ended up with this version of Wolverine who’s just a *tad* crazier than the main 616 version. I have already seen folks hobby-up this one-handed version and it looks great. I’m hoping we get him one day as an official version (along with the entire Age of Apocalypse roster).
Superior Spider-Man
Hey, remember that time when a dying Doc Ock did a mind-swap with Peter Parker and became a “hero” as Superior Spider-Man? Because that was a thing. Look, as weird as it was it did give us a pretty sweet new suit for Spider-Man. I liked the extra spider-limbs and thought that was a nice nod to Doc Ock and his Iron-Spider suit. Anyhow, I think this alternate version would also have to have two alternate identities so you couldn’t run another Peter Parker OR Otto Octavius with this character.
“Green Scar” Hulk
So this one takes a little explaining. “Green Scar” what Hulk was referred to when the whole Planet Hulk storyline was going on. Then, “Because Comics!,” Hulk gets even more angry and returns to Earth and the World War Hulk event kicked off. This “new version” of Hulk is sometimes called World Breaker because of how powerful/rageful AND focused he was at the time. Look, however AMG wants to do it is cool with me — I just want a Hulk wearing Gladiatorial Armor and dual-wielding weapons. That’s the Hulk/Green Scar/World Breaker I want!
Superior Iron Man
So I was going to make a “Hey remember that time Iron Man was kind of a dick and went on a villainous turn?!” joke but then I realized that’s basically Iron Man all the time…*rimshot*
Look, that might be a little unfair to Tony Stark…but in this case he can blame magic. It’s all due to an event Marvel dubbed “Axis” where the good guys and bad guys basically had their morality flipped via magic. The event was undone but, Evil Tony still being a genius and all, managed to shield himself from the reversal and stuck around.
This “evil” version really did some messed up stuff. However, He’s probably most well known for being one thing above all else: A Greedy Capitalist. This dude released a version of the Extremis 3.0 virus to the public via an App. This “upgraded” folks to “perfect” versions of themselves for the low, low cost of $100 a day. Basically he created a massively successful drug addition for people who would pay $100 a day to stay on it.
“Adam, why would you want this terrible version of Iron Man in MCP?!” I’ll be honest: it’s mostly cause of the Superior Iron Man suit. That’s really it.
Storm, Goddess of Thunder
Storm was already a big deal as an Omega-Level Mutant. However, there’s been a few times when she got a power boost from none other Asgard! The first time it happened was during Chris Clarmont’s X-Men run in 1985. Technically, this was a New Mutants story…but whatever. Basically Loki gave her a magic hammer called Stormcaster and it had similar powers to Mjolnir. She got a new suit that was Asgardian inspired, too. Anyhow, Stormcaster also came with a magic enchantment that put her under Loki’s spell. So, the heroes did the classic “Good guys fight until they realize they’ve been tricked and then thwart the bad guy” thing. Storm gives up Stormcaller and goes back to Earth. But there’s a few more times when Stormcaster comes calling.
This is really just another reason to have an awesome looking Storm miniature along with a Thor-level power boost to the character. That’s why I want this alternate version of her added to the game. Oh, and I’m not even talking about the latest power boost of the Eternal Storm variant that’s happening currently…talk about OP!
There’s still a TON of alternate and variant versions of characters — who do you want to see added to MCP?
