Relive The Nostalgia With These Five Great 80s Board Games

It’s definitely not confirmation bias to say the 80s were the best decade for pop culture. So let’s take a look at these totally rad 80s board games!
Back to the Future – Back in Time
I think your favorite 80s movie says a lot about your character. It’d be tough for me to pick, but for me, Back to the Future is absolutely up there. The Funko Games Back to the Future board game is a cooperative game where players work together to complete objectives before Marty disappears or time runs out.

Super Hazard Quest
As much as I do love movies, video games are definitely a bigger love for me. I played a lot of games in the 80s. And even though Super Hazard Quest leans more into the 90s pixel art / SNES era of gaming, I’m counting it since it’s close enough. There were plenty of similar side scrolling adventure games in the 80s too!
In Super Hazard Quest, players explore a randomly generated dungeon full of traps and monsters. Be the first player to reach the end boss and defeat them to claim victory!
Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul Kar
If Back to the Future wasn’t your favorite movie series, it may have been Indiana Jones. And Indiana Jones’ vibe is so well captured in another 80s flashback of Fireball Island. But now, restored for modern gaming as Fireball Island: The Curve of Vul Kar.
Explore the island, grab treasure, avoid traps, and most importantly, don’t get hit by one of the fireballs unleashed by the island’s volcano! May the best treasure hunter win!

Smash Up: Excellent Movies, Dudes!
Smash Up is such an underrated game. It’s simple, fun, and a great time every time. Players each grab a different deck of cards and battle it out using their various abilities and skills. But what makes Smash Up great is the sheer number of expansions.
Smash Up: Excellent Movies, Dudes! is exactly what you’d expect. References to Robocop, Rambo, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and tons more. In terms of nostalgia density, this one’s probably the most 80s board game on this list.
Goonies: Never Say Die
Okay, maybe Goonies is your favorite 80s movie? If so, you’re in luck. Goonies: Never Say Die is a fantastic RPG-like in a box. Players will run through a full campaign and play through iconic moments from the movie.
If you’re looking for a fun and accessible game in the same vein as HeroQuest, Never Say Die is a great option.
