Star Wars: Legion – Clone Commander Cody Preview – Time For Combined Arms

Clone Commander Cody sends in the clones as well as the tanks with his abilities in Star Wars: Legion. Check out this hero of the Republic!
Every army in Star Wars: Legion must take a unit with the Commander rank. They are kind of a big deal. Commanders are typically rare (in the sense you can’t take multiple copies of them in your army). They serve as a very important role on the tabletop because they also help shape your Command Card hand, too.
There areas are where Clone Commander Cody steps up. Today, we’re going to cover his place on the tabletop and check out exactly what he’s bringing with him.
“Commander of the famed 212th Attack Battalion alongside the illustrious Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, CC-2224, or “Cody,” boldly returns to the battlefields of Star WarsTM: Legion. While the many seasoned generals may already be familiar with Clone Commander Cody and his stalwart battalion—including the ever-dependable Waxer and Boil—there is a wealth to learn of these units for players new to Star Wars: Legion.”
Clone Commander Cody
Kicking things off, let’s start with Clone Commander Cody’s abilities. He’s got Observe 2 and Take Cover 1. Both of these will help the units under his command. Depending on what’s called for, Cody can assist their offense or defensive output with an Observation and Dodge token. He’s also great for ensuring your Vehicles get into the action with Direct: Vehicle. This allows for a bonus order for Ground or Repulsor Vehicle units each round.
Jump 1 is pretty self explanatory. And Target 1 allows him to gain an Aim Token after being issued an Order. That’s going to come in handy with his impressive DC-15A Blaster Rifle. With a range up to 4 and packing 2 red, 1 white, and 1 black dice it’s already a solid weapon. But it also comes with Lethal 1 and Impact 1, too!
Above you can see the rest of his Stats. It’s clear that Clone Commander Cody is a great asset to bring to the tabletop already. But he’s also got some great other support options — like those Command Cards!
Command Cards
Bring it Down! allows for Clone Commander Cody to really dish out those Observation Tokens to friendly units. Not only will those help with re-rolls, but you can even use them to gain Suppressive or Impact 1 depending on the target unit.
Have I Ever Let You Down? is next up. This Command Card grants Cody some payback! It basically lets him return fire to an enemy unit within range 4 that caused 1 or more wounds to a unit that was issued an order from this card. Provided he’s got LOS of course. As mentioned, his ranged attacks are pretty solid so this could be quite a potent set of retaliation attacks.
Finally, we have Combined Arms. If you need to activate a LOT of units at once this is the card for you. Not only will you get to double up on the Observe actions but you can also use this to move up your Clone Trooper units, too. It’s sort of a “everyone move out, but together” type of card.
Bring On The Extras
Clone Commander Cody doesn’t work alone. He’s got some back-up that you can add to your Clone Troopers, too. Boil and Waxer add some extra Leader options to those units along with their respective Keywords. Both Leaders lean into different aspects of the Clone Troopers. Boil allows you to shuffle damage to his unit to protect valuable assets. Waxer allows his unit to lean more into their courage values and deal with Suppression.
“This Character Expansion also supplies players with general-use Upgrade Cards for their Galactic Republic armies and beyond. A feature of Star Wars: Legion, many Upgrade Cards can be equipped to any unit with the appropriate icon on its upgrade bar, empowering players to mix and match Unit Cards and Upgrade Cards to fit their own playstyle. “
Upgrade cards are great way to customize units further. Portable Scanner grants a unit Take Cover 1 — but it also stacks with Cody’s innate Take Cover 1 making it a Take Cover 2. And then we have On The Hunt which also stacks to give Cody another Aim Token if he’s wounded and about to make an attack.
