The ‘Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’ Remake Seems To Be Real — and Imminent

Rumors of an Oblivion remake have been swirling around the internet a while now—turns out they’re not only real, the game is close at hand.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of a suite of games that’s done a lot for D&D (and other ttrpgs) albeit unintentionally. Oblivion and Skyrim are two games that are responsible for a whole generation of new players coming to D&D without needing all that much of a primer.
Because Oblivion—and other games all draw from a similar well. The ideas of quests and hp and red potions that make you healthy and blue potions that make you magical—these are all archetypal, yes, but people have to stumble into it somewhere.
Which is why it’s very exciting to see that the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake rumors appear to be more than just a rumor. It seems that they are actually real and that an official announcement (and release) are imminent.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Images Apparently Found on Vitruos’ Site
So with the Elder Scrolls-to-D&D pipeline in mind, here’s what we know. According to reputable folks on the internet, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake is hitting April 21st. People have been saying for a while that something like this was in the works—back in 2023 as part of the Microsoft/Activision acquisition, details about an Oblivion remake leaked in court documents.
Not long after, a former employee at Virtuos, the studio behind the supposed remake, alleged that the game was going to be updated. And now, according to reputable folks, like Tom Warren of The Verge (and of course, also Reddit), it seems as though images from the upcoming remake were briefly available online. With a treasure trove of images found in a wordpress uploads directory on Virtuos’ website. The page in question has since gone private.
Do you want to believe? Check back April 21st to know for sure.
