The World Eaters are coming with a new codex. They are bringing all the fury these followers of Khorne can muster.

We already got a look at one batch of GW previews for the World Eaters this week. Plus we got a look at what the new character will do, too. Today we’re getting more of a deep dive on them thanks to WarCom and Tournament Vet Richard Siegler. So let’s get into these previews!

I highly recommend you check out the article (link below). It’s got even more insights and breakdowns of how to actually use these units. There will be screen caps of the rules below if you just want to read those.

Berzerkers Updated

via Warhammer Community

“First, they gained 2″ of additional Movement, up to 8”. Their squad size also shifted from 5-10 models to 10-20, making offensive or defensive stratagems much more efficient on larger squads. They did lose a point of melee Strength (which can be regained with the Berzerker Warband detachment), but their Blood Surge move became D6+2”, making it significantly more annoying.”

If these were the only changes the Berzerkers would already start to look like a better unit. Personally, I really like the change (back) to unit sizes of 10-20. A massive pack of Berzerkers running at your lines is going to get some attention. There’s also two Detachments that really benefit loads of Berzerkers, too. The Berzerker Warband and the Goretrack Onslaught. Let’s start with the Berzerker Warband benefits:

Having that +2 Strength and +1 Attack on the charge is pretty fantastic for the Berzerkers. And it gets even scarier when you start to tap into those Sustained or Lethal Hits thanks to Blessing of Khorne. We’ve also got the breakdown of various stratagems that will help this Detachment out above. I don’t know about you but the Frenzied Resilience on a 20-man unit of Berzerkers seems like a great way to get them across the battlefield.

Goretrack Onslaught

Now, we got a shorter version of this one already. However, there’s a more in depth breakdown from WarCom:

You can see for yourself that the Goretrack Onslaught is really built for you to load-up the Rhinos and GO! To me, this Detachment was a love letter to the old Khorne Armies from previous editions that would always get shot out of their transports. It’s like the GW designers were saying “we’re sorry, here’s a new way to play to ensure you’ll get across the tabletop now.”

Seriously — look at Unrelenting Advance. You shot the Rhino, didn’t kill it, and it gets another 6″ move? Or maybe it got close enough that when you shot it, the Berzerkers got out and were able to Blood Surge INTO your units thanks to Fury Unleashed? Yeah…Transports just might be viable while using this Detachment.

How About Khorne Daemonkin?

“The other major new playstyle for World Eaters involves the Khorne Daemonkin detachment, which allows your World Eaters army to be joined by up to 1,000 points of Blood Legion units in a Strike Force game. “

If you’ve ever wanted to run a bunch of Khorne Daemons with the World Eaters there’s a specific Detachment for you. Depending on the size of the game you’ll be able to recruit Khorne Daemons into your World Eaters army. That’s right — grab Skarbrand and get ready to have your World Eaters Advance and Charge in the same turn!

It’s not just daemons that get all the benefits. If you even wanted to have your Lord on Juggernaut run with Bloodcrushers, now’s your chance! There’s an Enhancement (Disciple of Khorne) that allows you to do just that. Again, I highly recommend you read the article for a more articulate breakdown. There’s Khornate blood-soaked shenanigans to be had.

It certainly seems like the World Eaters are going to have some new options when list building. Hopefully this also allows for these playstyles to really thrive and shake things up a bit. Personally, I still worry about the World Eaters ability to close the gap and get into close combat. But that’s kind of the fun of that army!

The WarCom article also has a few example army lists to check out. You might want to snag those while they are up and compare them with your current army lists/points. If nothing else these lists have some insight into how you can form a World Eaters army of your own.

The new Codex is going up for pre-order this weekend. You know what to do.
