Warhammer 40K: Slaughterbound & The Lord of Poxes Up Close

New chaos characters are coming thanks to the Battleforces. We got our hands on them so let’s check out the Slaughterbound and Lord of Poxes!
Games Workshop has a pair of new characters coming to the the Chaos side of the house. The Death Guard have a new Lord of Poxes and the World Eaters have the Slaughterbound.
For now, these characters are only available in the new Battleforce boxes which are up for pre-order this weekend. Good luck getting your hands on those. Anyhow, we got sent some review copies and these new characters are pretty close to what we’ve been expecting.
Death Guard – Lord of Poxes
Miniature-wise, we’ve been seeing this character teased by GW a bit already. But getting a closer look, it’s eye catching. I can’t help but look at this miniature and paint a story in my head about him. It’s almost like he’s wandering through the wasteland with that massive pack on his back, along with his trusty sword, ready to right wrongs and meter out justice…
Oh wait, that’s someone else’s story. The Lord of Poxes is probably the reason there’s a wasteland as his pack is spewing forth plague-gas. And that massive sword isn’t for justice dispensing — it’s for slicing his enemies in half! I wouldn’t consider this miniature a noble son of the wasteland. More like the vector for the walking plague of death and disease that he is!
If you’d like a look at his rules, we covered that already as well. I think he’s going to be fantastic addition to the Death Guard army as his interaction with the core army rule has great synergy.
World Eaters – Slaughterbound
Okay, full disclosure: I’m a fan of the World Eaters but I’ve never been a big fan of “Possessed” units. While I appreciate the lore of the Eightbound/Exalted Eightbound/Slaughterbound I just don’t like these hybrid daemon-marines. It might be heresy to say but prefer my Chaos Space Marines in their ornate power armor with plenty of spikes and way less daemonic tendrils around.
That said, I can appreciate what GW was going for with the Slaughterbound. He’s certainly taking the Eightbound concept and going up to 11 with it. If you DO like your hybrid daemon-marines, specifically from the World Eaters, then he’s a natural fit for the army. It’s easy to see this character leading the charge with a bunch of Eightbound following in his wake.
I also like some of the callbacks to the World Eater’s history with this miniature. The Butcher’s Nails are pretty obvious. It’s also clear that there’s more than a little Bloodthirster coming out of this champion. If that’s your cup of tea then get ready to enjoy it when the World Eaters come to play.
Again, both of these miniatures are first included in their respective Battleforce boxes. The Gorestorm Slaughterpack and the Poxwrought Vector. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, I’m not sure if they are in stock or even available on the US website yet. So good luck! It’s worth noting that these characters will have a solo release at a later date though.
Those Possessed Chaos Marines give me the willies.
