Warhammer 40K: The Emperor’s Children Unleashed This Week

The Emperor’s Children are getting their full army up for pre-order this weekend. These are the kits that I’m most excited to see.

It feels like it’s been forever since the Emperor’s Children was released. But that was for the limited Army Set. Now, the rest of the range is actually coming out for pre-orders which means folks will finally be able to actually build a full army. That said, there’s a few kits that I’m most excited to see the community get their hands on.

Noise Marines

The first kit I’m excited to see out in the wild are Noise Marines. These are the iconic “Cult Troop” for the Emperor’s Children. While this incarnation is less “Cult Troop” and more “Cult Heavy Support” the fact is that it’s been a long time coming. I like the new weapons sculpts and the options this unit has. I’m also curious to see how players are going to incorporate them into lists.

Lord Exultant

While the Lord Exultant and the Noise Marines were part of the Army Set and technically they got released then the reality is that they weren’t wide releases. Now, this kit is also coming to pre-order and it’s a really good character pack. What I liked the most about this one (and why I’m exited it’s finally coming out) is the sheer modeling opportunities this miniature has. You’ll be able to really mix-and-match your options with this kit. It’s a great way to add a little personalized character to your collection.

Lucius the Eternal

This is another kit that has been a long awaited update. Lucius is the champion character of the Emperor’s Children. While you could make the case for Fabius Bile (and I have in the past), with this new miniature range update I think the debate is settled. Lucius is the unique combat character for the army. I’m also excited to see what the community does modeling wise with this miniature. That whip is going to be a focal point. Because of that, I think the very talent miniature painters out there are going to go nuts with this miniature. I can’t wait to see the results!

Fulgrim, Daemon Primarch of Slaanesh

The final miniature I’m excited about is Fulgrim. While Lucius is the “combat character” I think he still pales in comparison to Fulgrim in all his daemonic glory. While I know many out there feel like this miniature is inferior to the Forge World Horus Heresy Character series version, I think this one has a leg up in one department: Playability.

The Forge World version’s massive wings and stature make it unwieldy on the tabletop. It is cool? Yes. Is it impressive? Absolutely. Is it impractical? That’s the problem. This new version still has big wings but it’s also in plastic. Woe be unto the person that gets the resin version caught on their shirt/sweater/jacket. That version of Fulgrim is ready to shatter into resin shards with one accidental move.

Maybe if you’re a hardcore collector keep the resin version in the display case and use the plastic one to travel and play with on the tabletop. I think if you explain the situation to your opponent they will 100% understand.

Those are the kits that I’m personally most excited about. There’s still other kits that are up for pre-order, I’m just not as pumped to see them in the wild. Overall, I think the Emperor’s Children are one of those armies that I think a lot of players have been excited to see for a long time. They are finally getting a standalone codex and you’ll be able to run them as an army. I can’t wait to see how this army does both on the tabletop and in terms of people actually playing it. There’s been calls for a 40k Emperor’s Children army for so long — time to see if anyone actually ends up painting and playing this army!

Are you excited about the Emperor’s Children? Will it be an army you actually build for the tabletop?
