Warhammer 40K: World Eaters Detachment Previews

The World Eaters have a new codex on the way and Games Workshop is showcasing a few detachments that will cover the battlefield in blood!
There’s Chaos on the horizon folks! We got a look at the Death Guard earlier and now it’s the World Eaters up to the plate. What will these angry followers of Khorne have in store for the tabletop? It’s blood. And Skulls. Lots of both. Let’s see how their detachments will bring on the slaughter!
“Where’s the fun in a kill that doesn’t paint the room red? The World Eaters are inclined to agree, and with a new Codex on the horizon, we’re taking a look at how they translate this can-do attitude into dazzling battlefield strategies.”
World Eaters Army Rule
Before we dive into the Detachments, we need to talk about the army rule for the World Eaters. Well, good news(?) it hasn’t really changed all that much.
“One or two of the dice values needed to deploy your Blessings of Khorne have changed – Total Carnage now needs a double 3 or more instead of a double 4 or triple – but otherwise they’re still the same all-out assault troops you know and love.”
And incase you want to check out the rules for yourself, download the Index while you still can…
If it’s just Total Carnage that’s changed…well, this sheet is still (mostly) good. Now, on to the detachments…
World Eaters Detachments
With the World Eaters getting +1 to charge rolls and their weapons getting Lance after disembarking, it seems like transports in that army just went up in value. At least for this Detachment. And yes, there’s some stratagems to help with disembarking, too.
Will these changes encourage World Eater players to take more transports? Will they be able to taxi their payloads to the enemy consistently? How will the enemy stop these crazed berzerkers charging like mad-men out of these transports!? Eh…I think it depends on the enemy army. But that’s another topic.
Personally, I’m glad to see the World Eaters get an option to make their transport-based charges a bit more impactful. We’ll have to see if they manage to close that gap and get to use these rules.
Okay, this Detachment sounds kind of cool. You have to take some big toys with you but the benefits could be game changing. It’s a nice concert of these “Idols of Khorne” and the Jakhals and Goremongers. I can appreciate the unit mix here.
Naturally, the enhancements and stratagems compliment these units as well. I’ll be curious to see if this style of army gets to take root and becomes a meta-shaker or not. Or will folks stick with the classics like Berzerkers? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Other World Eater Detachments
There will be three more Detachments for the World Eaters to use on top of the two above.
“The Berzerker Warband returns mostly unchanged with an extra pip of Strength going into your axe arm when you charge, while the Khorne Daemonkin enlists the aid of crimson warp entities to build up Blood Tithe points before spending them to unlock powerful abilities that last until the end of battle. Finally, the Possessed Slaughterband wear their modus operandi on their sleeves, hurling as many howling Eightbound up the table as possible while using the enemy’s own firepower to close in quicker.”
Overall, I’m curious to see what else this new codex brings. We are getting a new World Eater Character and that should be fun. If you’re a fan of getting in your enemy’s face and making it rain blood then the World Eaters are here for you!
There’s blood on the horizon…
