The High Elf range for The Old World is getting re-released this week for pre-order. These are some of my all-time favorites from the range.

When it comes to Old World Armies I had a healthy respect for the High Elves. I always found their range impressive. Unfortunately for me, at their height, I really couldn’t afford to play that army. I had other armies pulling my attention away. But that soft spot for the High Elves remains. And now, with this particular wave of miniatures coming out, I’m really excited to see some of my favorites getting re-released.

Dragon Princes of Caledor

First up, the Dragon Princes of Caledor! It didn’t matter to me what they did on the tabletop or how they didn’t have the same formations at Bretonnians — this cavalry unit always stuck out to me. I know the paint-job is doing a lot of work, but I always felt like the horse armor and overall look of the unit was impressive. To me, this unit along with the Swordmasters and White Lions were THE High Elf army.

Lion Chariots of Chrace

I know that this new box is coming with the option to build the Tiranoc Chariots. That’s cool and all, but why? You could have freakin’ LION Chariots, people! To me there was only ever one way to build this kit. I’m super pumped that it’s back just because of the White Lions of Chrace. I did mention that the Dragon Princes, Swordmasters, and White Lions were kind of the iconic units to me, right? Well how about actual While Lions pulling chariots?! Now we’re talking.

High Elf Mages

The final unit that I’m excited about from this wave is the High Elf Mage kit. The Spearmen and Archers are both important units for the army and the Skycutter is useful But you can’t ignore magic. And, while I’m still not a huge fan of magic, bringing a wizard or two just help do counter-magic is typically a good idea. That’s why I really like the High Elf Mage on foot. I particularly appreciate how they are flexing their magic and acrobatic skills by balancing on those rocks. It’s almost like that idea inspired some other miniature later on…

Anyhow, I’m glad to see these miniatures getting re-released. If I had to pick my absolute favorite of the batch I’d go with the Lion Chariots. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to building that High Elf army of my dreams but I’d probably have to start with those Lion Chariots. Those would be the miniatures that would get their hooks (or perhaps claws) into me first. But I don’t need to start another army, right!? That’s what my wallet keeps telling me anyhow.

So how many Lion Chariots can I fit into a list?
