Warhammer 40K: New Chaos Knight Battleforce Houndpack Lance Pricing Breakdown

Warhammer 40,000 is getting a new Battleforce Box for the Chaos Knights. How much of a deal should you expect for a box full of War Dogs?
When I first saw the Battleforce: Houndpack Lance I was a little shocked. A box full of various Chaos War Dogs? That seems just a tad crazy…but it could totally work. But then I got to thinking about the pricing here. What is Games Workshop going to charge and how much of deal are we going to see?
Battleforce Boxes lately have been in the $230-240 range. While I don’t have the exact price on the Houndpack Lance just yet, I imagine it’s going to be within that price point. So, with that in mind, I’m just going to start with the high end as a more conservative estimate on the savings front. So let’s break these puppies down in price and find out!
Battleforce: Houndpack Lance Pricing Breakdown
7x Chaos War Dogs (various variants) = $330.75
Total Individual MSRP = $330.75
Total Estimated Savings at a $240 price point = $90.75
So really quick, how did I get to $330.75? Well each box of Chaos War Dogs regardless of the variant comes in at $94.50 With that said this box does come with 7 total. Dividing $94.50 by 2 we get a per unit cost of $47.25. Multiply that by 7 and we get $330.75.
It’s also worth noting that the above box is the one this Battleforce Box is based on. This box has all the sprues to build War Dog Brigands, War Dog Stalkers, or War Dog Karnivores. It’s just 3.5x copies of these sprues.
Now the question is if this boxed set is going to be worth getting. That’s a great question! Games Workshop did have this tidbit to say about the Battleforce:
“The new Codex: Chaos Knights contains a Detachment specially designed to represent a roving band of vicious War Dogs who operate without a larger master’s supervision, and the Houndpack Lance battleforce is the perfect way to get just such an army started.”

The fact that GW has created a new Detachment specifically for this concept of “All War Dogs, All The Time” might actually be worth considering. I haven’t seen the Detachment (yet) so it’s a little hard to judge that. Hopefully we’ll get more details before it goes up for pre-order.
Having said all that, I do think if you want to jump into a Chaos Knights Army this seems like a really simple way to do it. War Dogs are pretty mean individually and seven of them pack a lot of firepower. They are mini-knights, right?
The Chaos Knight Codex is coming to Pre-order this weekend. Are you thinking of recruiting some War Dogs of your own?
