Tabletop Crowdfunding Round-Up: April 10th
God-like champions, martial arts masters, and rugged survivors. Come check out this week’s batch of Kickstarter highlights!
Godtear by Steamforged Games
The company behind Guild Ball is ready to return to crowdfunding with their next miniatures game, Godtear. Godtear is a factionless, objective-focused skirmish game where players recruit teams of enormous demigods and their followers. The game is loosely inspired by MOBAs, with each towering champion fitting into one of several classes that roughly define their role and general playstyle. The miniatures will be preassembled and made from the same highly detailed PVC material that Guild Ball fans are likely familiar with by now. The only pledge level will get you the full game and any unlocked stretch goals for £79/$111, though there are a handful of add-ons you might want to check out.
Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game by Jasco Games
If you play video games and watch reviews on YouTube, then you’ve probably heard of Angry Joe before. Joe has spent the previous three or so years working on a miniatures game based on some of his favorite fighting game IPs, and now he has teamed up with Jasco Games to bring his creation to Kickstarter. This tabletop adaptation of Street Fighter will allow players to beat the crap out of each other with some of their favorite characters from Capcom’s popular fighting game franchise. Miniatures come preassembled and painted, with an impressive amount of detail and effects for prepainted models. Eventually Joe wishes to expand the game with characters from other IPs, like Tekken and Dragon Ball Z. Pledges start at $80.
Crisis: The New Economy by LudiCreations
This campaign by LudiCreations seeks to reprint and expand upon the dieselpunk business management game, Crisis. The country of Axia has fallen into civil unrest and economic collapse. Each player controls an investor looking to take advantage of the turmoil to expand their business empire. Spend capital to bail out failing businesses, hire new employees, produce valuable goods, and engage in shady business deals to get ahead of your competition. Players will need to carefully balance their actions between growing their profits and improving the overall economy of Axia, or risk allowing the country to slip even further into chaos. You can get the base game and the expansion for $68.
Fireball Island by Restoration Games
If you grew up in the ’80s, then you may remember an old Milton Bradley game called Fireball Island. This press-you-luck adventure game’s signature mechanic was a volcano in the center of the board that dropped “fireball” marbles down randomized pathways as players scurried around the map gathering treasure. Now, Restoration Games seeks to resurrect this cult classic with high quality modern components, refined rules, new mechanics, and additional expansion packs. The simple-yet-chaotic mechanics make it the perfect way to ease your children or other young family members into board games. You can get the base game with all expansions and stretch goals for $130.
Maximum Apocalypse: Gothic Horrors by Rock Manor Games
Gothic Horrors is a new set of expansions for the cooperative survival roguelike board game, Maximum Apocalypse. As with the base version, a team of players will each choose a survivor with a unique set of abilities and must work together to survive one of several apocalyptic scenarios. Gothic Horrors introduces six new survivors and a new apocalypse scenario themed around vampires, werewolves, and other classic movie monsters. Other new expansions in the campaign introduce scenarios like kaiju, Lovecraftian horrors, Japanese yokai, and genetically engineered dinosaurs. Existing owners can get the new expansions for $39, while newcomers can pick up the base game for the same price.
Unbroken by Altema Games
Finally we come to Unbroken, a solo roguelike board game that can be played out in 20-30 minutes. You are the sole survivor of an adventuring party that was ambushed by a group of dangerous monsters, and now it’s time for some revenge. Gather resources, craft weapons, and gradually build your strength so you can take down a series of monster encounters to avenge your fallen comrades. The game currently has four playable characters and two dozen monster types, with more being added as stretch goals. You can get the entire game, with a few Kickstarter goodies, for $46.
