Black Rose Wars by Ludus Magnus Studios LLC
Black Rose Wars is a strategy board game where four aspiring mages compete to become the next Great Master of the Lodge. The game is set on a modular, hex-based board representing the Lodge and the many magic-infused rooms that make up its hallowed halls. Players spend their turns researching new spells from six different schools of magic, summoning evocations to aid them in battle, and activating the special abilities of each room. Players can win the game by either killing their competition, or destroying key rooms and completing quests to gather victory points. You can grab the core Black Rose Wars box, the Kickstarter exclusive Crono expansion, and all unlocked stretch goals for $139.
Court of the Dead: Mourners Call by Project Raygun
Court of the Dead is a strategy game where players need to balance cooperation with their own ulterior motives. The Underworld is currently caught up in the war between Heaven and Hell, and Death unwillingly supplies souls to both sides to fuel their eternal struggle. The forces of Death wish to rise up and break this cycle, but are deeply divided between the factions of Bone, Flesh, and Spirit. Five players control rival undead leaders seeking to unite the Underworld. Each player has a set of hidden objectives to complete as they gain power and influence with the Underworld’s warring factions. While players are ultimately trying to take over the Underworld for their own selfish motives, they will need to work together to ensure that Heaven and Hell get their tithes of souls on time, or face the wrath of their impatient overlords. The full game and all stretch goals will cost you $90.
MegaMetroCity by BoomBox Board Games
MegaMetroCity is a cooperative beat ’em up board game inspired by popular side-scrolling arcade and console brawlers from the ’80s. Up to four friends control a group of grizzled street fighters trying to liberate their neighborhood from the iron grip of a violent gang of thugs. Each character has an upgradable arsenal of special attacks and secret techniques at their disposal, and can also pick up improvised weapons scattered around each stage. Every level can be played as a single session or an interconnected story, with three difficulty settings to choose from. You can get the entire core set for $89.
Fantastical Sub-Saharan Miniatures by Deraj Studios
Deraj Studios is working on a line of true-scale 32mm resin miniatures inspired by Sub-Saharan African culture and folklore. Their plan is to make more miniatures based on cultures around the world in the near future, and eventually use the minis to make a skirmish game called Portals: Worlds Collide. This campaign features a variety of tribal warriors, the orc-like Dameeri, mud elementals, and some massive hippo berserkers and shamans that would work well in an RPG or other war game.
Hirelings of Asura by Sergio Calvo
Finally, we come to the Hirelings of Asura, a range of massive 70mm Asian-themed orcs and ogres. There’s four models total, each of which are made of resin and include a handful of optional upgrade parts that are being added as stretch goals. The miniatures are made for collectors and painters, but could stand in as giants in a war game or RPG. The miniatures are €49/$60 each, or €180/$219 for the entire set.
