Geekery: First Look at Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Freaks’ is Promising
Freaks doesn’t have a magical pedigree when it comes to horror (its director, Adam B. Stein, who works on Jimmy Kimmel), but it does have a good cast and an intriguing premise that indie movie fans can dig into.
The trailer makes it look like The Room, but with a massive twist. It may give some A Quiet Place fans some flashbacks. An overly protective and disturbed father tells his young daughter that it’s very dangerous outside of their house – and locks her in, telling her he’s protecting her. But – she is curious and bold, and meets a friend (named Mr. Snowcone) that convinces her to escape and go on an adventure to find freedom and revenge.
It stars Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, Grace Park, with Amanda Crew, and new comer Lexy Kolker. It premiers at Toronto Film Festival next month, hopefully followed by a theater release. It’s a short trailer, but there’s a lot to see…
