In Kill Team Arena GW introduces a new competitive rules for Kill Team, including a set of rules to set expectations for Tournament play–and behavior.

In Kill Team Arena you’ll a tightly constructed set of rules that help turn Kill Team into a competitive, Night Vault-esque game full of terrain set up in specific ways on specific boards, with objectives strewn across the battlefield while battle-forged Kill Teams duke it out. And if that’s not enough, there’s a special set of Arena objectives cobbled together from a shared deck, giving each player a different goal in the battle.

But there’s more than that in this new gameset–there’s also a section of rules that detail how a tournament should be organized, scored, and acceptable behavio(u)r. This is the first time we’ve seen this sort of thing from GW–here’s a look at the tournament/player expectations:

Note the section on model requirements, and the structure for breaks and scoring. Then we get to the segment on Player Conduct, which includes expectations for players and spectators, including slow play and cheating.

How this will all shake out remains to be seen. With the Commanders expansion and now Arena (and a few more slated) it certainly feels like GW wants to support Kill Team. And pushing it in a more competitive direction would definitely help bolster it’s success–after all you only have to look at how Warhammer Underworlds (both Shadespire and Night Vault) have been doing to see the burgeoning communities cropping up around it.

The question is, will this be enough to help Kill Team get its feet off the ground, competitively? And following that, will we be seeing more rules like this–from GW instead of Tournament Organizers–for games like 40K?

Let us know what you think in the comments! Will these rules spread? How will they affect your games?
