HOBBY: Bolt Action-40K Easy-does-it Wrecked Vehicle Markers!
Hi SC Mike here from Santa Cruz Warhammer. Today a quick post on how to create easy Wrecked Vehicle Markers that could be used in 40K and Bolt Action
A bit of history
After playing Warhammer Fantasy and 40K for over a decade, this year I have been really getting into Bolt Action, the WW2 game from Warlord Games. I love military history and Bolt Action allows me to learn about that pivotal period in our history.
Having played a few games of Bolt Action now, it has always been kind of anti climatic when one of the vehicles on the battlefield blows up and we have to use black felt to make it look like smoke. Here’s an easy but cinematic solution!
This is what it will look like!
I used some old clump foliage from Woodland Scenics:
Glue some of the clumps together with superglue and spray it black. After that do your dry brushing, using orange and yellow and an overall drybrush of light grey. It’s actually not as easy as it sounds. Make sure to keep the the reds and oranges on the lower part of your smoke cloud and lighten it up once you get to the top.
I attached the clump foilage to a Games Workshop base (and magnetized it for easy transport). It works nice, since the base is just small enough to fit in the turret openings on my models. That way the smoke really seems to come out from the inside.
Easy does it. I am planning on make a few more but bigger.
Part of me realizes that I am glad this is a game for all of us. When I was looking for a good historical image for this post, I saw a lot of exploding tanks and it made me realize those images are real, with real people involved, not models. I like Bolt Action partly because of that, it’s my way of paying respect to history and learn about the soldiers who were sent out in those days. It’s like the 40K universe but real…
Of course you can use these markers also for Warhammer 40K or any other game system that uses explosions, tanks and mech firepower. Just make the clouds bigger!
