Age of Sigmar: Cities, Orruks & Bones OH MY
I am super jazzed about everything Age of Sigmar I’ve seen – but these three top the list.
Cities of Sigmar
Finally, at long last, all of the underrepresented Order armies are united under one big gold umbrella! Bringing in the armies of the Dispossessed, the Ironweld Arsenal, and the Scourge Privateers, among others, to join the old Empire models, this promises to be an exciting addition. Fans of The Empire have been scrambling for a Battletome for quite some time, and now they get one and so much more. And for those who preferred the more diverse armies of the Aelves or Duardin, each city will most likely have its own specialization and rules similar to Skaven clans.
I hope that I can finally run a full, viable Wanderers list with some decent magic item support, or at least something I wouldn’t mind allying into my Sylvaneth. Regardless, I’m excited to see how this Battletome develops, and if they will follow the trend of all the other recent books with their own endless spells and terrain piece.
Orruk Warclans
Similar to Cities of Sigmar, the much loved but oft-ignored legions of the Orruks are now being brought together into a single battletome. Ironjawz have been a very popular army since they were first introduced, but they have always felt a little diminished to me. Hopefully, this new tome will give them a more diverse array of command abilities, artefacts, and playstyles. Also, the Bonesplitterz are joining the fray, and much like above, here’s hoping that there are bonuses for playing both groups of big green boys together but also unique and interesting playstyles for each one on their own.
The Splitterz have been due for an update for quite some time, so I’m excited to see what this new book does for them. I’ve always been a huge fan of the feral side of Orcs, so I’m interested to see how they will stack up alongside their big armored cousins. Also interested to see what sorts of endless spells and terrain pieces they get (my money is on a big warshrine similar to what the Gloomspite got).
Tithe of Bones
The next chapter in the Soul Wars saga has been teased a couple of times, and the speculation for what it could mean is wild. I’m excited about confirmation for what exactly it means, but from everything I’ve seen it’s got to have something to do with a brand new undead faction. I’m really hoping for a return of the Tomb Kings from their long exile, or perhaps an updated standalone codex for Soulblight. Either way, from the two videos we’ve seen so far, the hype is very real.
My first AoS army was undead, and I’ve always enjoyed following the forces of Nagash in the Lore, so I’m excited for anything new for the Alliance of Death. Hopefully, GW won’t make us wait too long before giving us more information about what exactly this is, and what it means for the AoS universe.
Which of these are you most excited for in the Mortal Realms?
