Warhammer 40K: Chapter Master Shrike Rules Preview
Kayvaan Shrike has returned after crossing the Rubicon Primaris – let’s take a look at his new rules!
The Raven Guard is coming with a new codex supplement and a new Chapter Master Shrike along with it. Today, Games Workshop is showcasing some of his new and improved abilities on the tabletop. The Master of Shadows is HERE!
“Kayvaan Shrike, the young warrior who would eventually become Chapter Master of the Raven Guard, forged his legend in the fires of war as Shadow Captain of the 3rd Company – the Ghoststalkers. He led his battle-brothers from one war zone to the next, always favouring worlds that had been abandoned to invading armies by overstretched Imperial forces. Upon making planetfall, Shrike would lead his Battle Company in a masterful campaign of guerilla warfare. Time and time again, his Raven Guard would burst forth from the shadows to annihilate lightly defended columns and destroy ammunition stores before melting into the darkness once more like phantoms.”
Shrike has a new model on the way thanks to his bold choice to cross the Rubicon Primaris. He still sees himself as “a Captain whose place is on the battlefield” his new upgrades will allow him to be even more effective. What new upgrades? Take a look!
Stat-wise, he’s got the extra Primaris Wound as well as the extra Primaris Attack. Those will come in handy! Furthermore, his move is 14″ and that’s thanks to his custom jump pack!
As for his weapons, he’s got the notorious Raven’s Talons which are now retractable blades – his old Lightning Claws basically. With -3 AP and 2 damage with a re-roll to wound, on paper, he’s got the potential to do 12 damage solo. His pistol, Blackout, is an 18″ range Pistol 2 with -2 AP and 2 damage. It can also ‘snipe’ characters and can generate mortal wounds on 6+ to wound in addition to any other damage. That’s not a bad loadout by anymeans.
Shrike is also a Chapter Master with all the re-rolls that entails. However, re-rolling hit rolls is just one of his abilities; Shrike also lets you re-roll charges:
It’s going to be very tempting to want him leading the charge with either Phobos equipped marines or perhaps some Vanguard Vets with Jump Packs. But that’s not all – Shrike has one more ability that will come in pretty handy:
Diving Charge is yet another mortal wound generating option. This is great for picking out specific units – like say an enemy character – to take the mortal wound after the charge move. Shrike does feel like a character assassin and he’s got the speed and hitting power to take out infantry characters in droves. Just don’t leave him hanging solo…
