Age of Sigmar: More Cities of Sigmar Rules Previews

Games Workshop has been previewing rules for the Cities of Sigmar all week – let’s take a look at a few of the City specific rules!

If you haven’t been paying attention then these rules might have slipped under your radar. GW has been showing off some previews on their AoS Facebook page all week long. We’ve gone back and collated them in the post below. The Pictures are from their page and the descriptions of the Cities are from Warhammer Community’s City Primer article. That said – let’s dive in a take a closer look!

Anvilgard

“A bustling frontier port in Aqshy, promising action and adventure for those bold enough to seek it. There’s almost nothing that can’t be found in this mysterious city, if you’re willing to pay the right price.”

Anvilgard is a city with a shadowy underbelly. But don’t let those Illicit Dealings get you down – use them to your advantage! All three of these options for taking an Anvilgard army seem pretty good – D3 command points is pretty nice but so is an extra relic!

Greywater Fastness

“A marvel of the engineer’s art, this industrious city is famed for blackpowder weapons of all kinds. Marvel at massive forges operated by proud Ironweld guildmasters and Dispossessed mason-lords. Looking for a nice souvenir? Visit the markets for everything from fine duelling pistols to exquisite jewellery.”

Do you want to run a gunline? Cause the Greywater Fastness is all about the guns. Ironweld Arsenal units get a flat 3″ range buff to their guns and you can have an extra Artillery unit in your army. “Guns for the Gunline! Black Powder for the Powder Throne!” Wait a minute…

We also got a look at a General ability for them as well. Seriously, this army is going to lay down a wall of lead! I do not look forward to being on the receiving end of that barrage.

Tempest’s Eye

“Ride a romantic cable carriage up the side of the majestic Titanspear Mountains to reach Tempest’s Eye, a cloud city like none other. Duardin airships buzz with activity, unloading rarified goods from all over the Mortal Realms to feed the bustling markets.”

A little bit of planning can go a long way. For the Tempest’s Eye, they can apparently plan for weeks in advance. Does that make “the Batman” of the Cities of Sigmar? Kinda! Look at their paint scheme – very Batman ’66. Anyways, their ability is a bonus 3″ move and +1 to save rolls on the first battle round. That might not seem like much, but that generally means you’re going to be able to close those gaps faster and survive the first round better than most. Now you just have to get in there and finish the job!

The Phoenicium

“Shrouded in a sorcerous golden mist, this revived city is home to the Phoenix Temple, who rebuilt it in the cradle of an ancient ruin. Filled with sophisticated art and places of enlightened study, the aelves strive to recreate all that’s been lost in ages past. The Phoenicium is a real beacon of culture, so be sure to enjoy the beautiful art, architecture, and amber statuary. “

The Phoenicium army has a pretty great deterrent ability – if you destroy a Phoenicium unit, the rest of the army gets to add 1 to hit and wound rolls for the rest of the phase. I can see this forcing opponents to re-think their attacks during the combat phase for sure. It can also mean you can toss a sacrificial unit at an enemy in hopes that they DO kill it so the rest of the army can strike better and harder for the rest of the turn. Phoenix Guard that are hitting and wounding on 2+ seems pretty mean!
