This Week in 40K Podcasting – 09/13/2013 – 09/19/2013
Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”
Opinion: While all of the Space Marine coverage from the numerous podcasts has been informative, and I do love it all, it was a nice change for me to see the overall effect of all these new codices and supplements on the landscape of 40K as a whole. I have found my own purchases slow down lately, and that is simply just trying to keep up with the meta. So this was a great over look at what has come and what we may expect to see in year two of 6th Edition. The review of Apocalypse was nice too. Great show guys!
Highlights: This week the boys are joined by Jonny and Ciaran and they are reviewing the new Codex: Space Marines! They open up with the News where they discussed some of the new releases for Space Marines from Forgeworld. They moved on to what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby. Next, Jason had an interview with the developers of Space Wolf the game. They discussed the CCG aspects of the game plus its turn based tactics. Next, Jason interviewed Carl from the Independent Character’s to discuss the use of a Kanban List to help organize your hobby! Next, the boys began their two part series on the new Space Marine Codex. They opened up with a look at the book itself, artwork, page quality and quantity, and more. They then move on to discuss what fluff and backstory has been added to this book, and this included the successor chapters back stories as well. They moved on to discuss the Special Rules for the army, starting with the Chapter Tactics and Doctrines, and this included the big White Scars, Black Templar, and Iron Hands Chapter Tactics!
Opinion: I am always a big fan of when the guys take a look at a new Codex. They boys do a really good job of going through all the big changes and what you need to know about Space Marine. But this show had a whole lot more than that, like the interview with the developers of the Space Wolf game. I’m not sure how I feel about the CCG aspect of the game, but it sounds interesting to me. And that Kanban thing, I think I might just have to set one of these up. I have too much backlog!
Opinion: A monster of a show with a huge amount of tactics to soak up. This was another one of their typical tournament reviews with interviews and detailed looks at their games. I love these, which it would have been broken up over two shows, but still love them. Thanks guys!
Highlights: This week the boys look at the new Space Marine Codex! They opened up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they discussed the game they have been playing. Next, DJ was back in ‘Simhammer’ and this week he discussed ‘area of influence’, including a units movement and its ability to score. Next, the boys dove right into the new Space Marine codex, starting with their first initial thoughts on this new book. This included units being cheeper, the book being brought up to speed with 6thEdition, and a potential for several competitive builds. They start off with some of the Special Rules before moving on to the Warlord Traits. They then detailed out the Chapter Tactics and the Ultramarine’s Doctrines, the White Scars, Black Templars, Iron Hands and much more! They then moved on to discuss the generic HQ choices like the Chapter Master, the Captain, Librarians, and much more! The moved on to the Tactical Marine in all of its variants, the Bike Squads, Scouts, Veterans, and Command Squads! They then took the time to detail out the Honor Guard and how much belter they got in this book. They then skipped a bit ahead to highlight the amazing Thunderfire Cannon and how this may be the auto-take unit of this book! They closed out the show with another Q&A session with questions from their Facebook fans!
Opinion: Once again, another great show from the guys, very in-depth look at the tactical applications of the new Space Marine Codex. The only problem I had with it, was that there wasn’t enough of it! I am really looking forward to the second part of the show and some of their list building ideas. If there is a competitive build in this book, the boys with expose each and every one of them. I cannot wait until next week’s show!
Opinion: I have to stop making a big deal about the fact the guys as Jaded Gamercast are churning out some really great shows as of late, but here we are again with yet another great show boys. I am finding that I really like their list building shows. It gives you a great idea on some builds that you might be seeing out there real soon. Loved the show guys!
War Council – Episode 5 Up and Coming new podcast, brief look at Space Marines, Commission Painting Services, ‘How Cover Saves Work’, and much more!
