Age of Sigmar: 3 Reasons I’m Excited About Seraphon
This weekend, the wishes of AoS gamers will be answered and updated Seraphon will finally go on preorder. Here’s what I’m looking forward to the most in the new book.
New Lore and Subfactions
Up to this point, all of the Seraphon with the exception of the Slann have been manifestations of the memory of the leaders, and were summoned from their dreams to the field of battle. With the new book, we now know exactly what the different factions of lizards are. On the one hand, we have the Starborne, who represent the light-infused Seraphon that live in the realm of Azyr. They get summoned to the battlefield similar to Stormcast, and resemble beings of light since they are so attuned to the power of the Realm of Sigmar. In the other realms, the feral Coalesced represent those Seraphon that have fully formed themselves, and they are more warlike and bestial. Each of these is going to have different playstyles on the tabletop, complete with 3 subfactions each, and I can’t wait to see how they play out. I am especially excited to try out the Thunder Lizards, as I remember the days of old when Stegadons were king.
New Terrain – Ziggurat
In keeping with their Aztec theme, the Seraphon are getting a magic powered ziggurat as their custom terrain piece. It can be garrisoned with a priest or mage, and plays havoc with terrain, making the whole battlefield a potential weapon. Plus it just looks awesome, and can be built to look pristine and maintained or overgrown with vines and retaken by the jungle. Even if you don’t play Seraphon, this will be a cool piece to pick up for home tables, and is going to bring a lot of character to the table.
Bound Endless Spells
Rather than getting new Endless spells of their own, Seraphon can use their phenomenal cosmic power to exert control over the standard Endless Spells. Predatory spells can only be moved by the Seraphon wizard that cast them, and so there’s no risk of them turning on you. Unleash a Purple Sun into your enemies with impunity, confident in the knowledge that it will never turn back on you.
What are you looking forward to in the new book?
