Warhammer 40K: Ork Big Mek Brings The Kustom Force Field Back
The Ork Big Mek is back with a Kustom Force Field option thanks to Saga of the Beast!
It looks like Games Workshop is re-adding an old favorite back into the mix for Ork Players. What’s really odd is there isn’t a model for this one…yet.
This is the Big Mek with Kustom Force Field. “Hey, can’t the Big Mek already take that?” No – that’s the Big Mek in Mega Armour. This version is a re-introduction from the Index version where it doesn’t have Mega Armour. The other version of the Big Mek in the Codex doesn’t have this particular option as it’s just the Shokk Attack version.

Stat-wise he’s very similar. The Kustom Force Field, however, is different. Note that it’s Clan now and not Ork. Also, it doesn’t appear to be on when he’s in a transport unlike before. He’s also cheaper in Power Level so that is a bit of a trade-off.
Strangely enough this Ork Mek Model was the only other model we could find currently available from Games Workshop that was 1) An Ork 2) A Mek 3) Not wielding a Shokk Attack Gun 4) Not in Mega Armour. Unfortunately, it’s not a BIG Mek. Now the model could totally stand in for an Ork Big Mek and have a Kustom Force Field – but that’s not what the description is on the web page.
The fact that it was previously in the Index, but not in the Codex is also puzzling. Maybe this was just GW tossing a bone to players with already converted minis or the really old model.

So did Games Workshop add these rules for a model that does currently exist in the range? Are they going to expect players to just kit-bash their own (heck yes). Should we keep an eye out for a new Big Mek Kit with or without the Shokk Attack Gun (which doesn’t make sense because it’s already a plastic kit). GW – What’s the deal?
It’s an Odd Case of the Big Mek returning with updated rules but with no clear model option…for now.
