Let us discuss why the rumors of Renegade and Chaos Primaris Marines are false propaganda spread by the enemies of the great Cawl.

Earlier this week the world, the galaxy even, was shocked by the news that Primaris Marines where turning renegade, falling to Chaos and going traitor. This news has spread rapidly, bringing joy to the hearts of traitors and cultists everywhere and confusion, anger, and sadness to loyal citizens. However, this news is simply proof that you should not believe everything you read online. The reports of Renegade Primaris are in fact nothing short of vile calumny meant to discredit the Primaris. Let’s take a look at what happened.

The Story

The events that took place around the world of Khassedur, as detailed in Consequences have been widely misinterpreted. Here are the facts.  A fleet of ships arrives in the Khassedur system. The complete makeup of the fleet is unknown but seems to have several ships in it. We know that it includes a force of Custodian Guards as well as some Sisters of Silence. The primary goal of the fleet is to deliver 2 companies of Primaris Marines to the Brazen Drakes Space Marine Chapter. On arrival in the system, they find the system torn by conflict and receive reports that the Brazen Drakes have turned traitor. No attempt is made to confirm or investigate this.

On receiving this news the Custodian Shield Captain Tyvar declares the Primaris Brazen Drakes on the fleet tainted traitors and attempts to take them into custody. When one speaks out against this, Tyvar kills him starting a fight. As a result, the Primaris Captain Gerion feels he and his men have been betrayed and orders his men to fight back. Gerion and his fellows on the flagship at cut down by the Talons of the Emperor and it can be assumed that his fellows on the other ships fared no better.

Misunderstandings

It’s clear that people using this story to push the idea of renegade Primaris Marines, a ridiculous idea, are misunderstanding the story. The main one is that the Primaris Brazen Drakes are in any way fallen, traitors or renegades. The Primaris Marines on the fleet are described as “Greyshields” this means they come from Cawl’s original batch of Primaris Marines and had taken part in the Indomitus Crusade. They take their geneseed from the line of one of 9 Loyal Primarchs directly, not from chapter stocks. Indeed the Sister of Silence confirms that part of the fleet’s mission is to make sure the Brazen Drakes accepted the gift of “Cawl’s Miracle” meaning that the Drakes had no knowledge of Primaris Marines until that point and that the Greyshields on the fleet had never had any contact with their new chapter. Thus even if the Chapter or its gene-seed was corrupted none of that could have affected the Marines on the fleet.

We should add to that it was the Custodian who drew first blood and that the Primaris Marines acted only in self-defense, when they, loyal sons all, were betrayed first. Even Captain Gerion’s last words invoked the Emperor. These are the actions not of renegades, but of loyal Marines at best caught up in a misunderstanding and at worst actively betrayed. Indeed even fighting against an Inquisitorial Decree or other Imperial factions wouldn’t really classify them as true renegades, unless we should consider The Dark Angels and Space Wolves and just about every other major chapter also renegades. These Marines were not traitors, they were victims.

Custodial Overreach

It’s clear that what happened at Khassedur was not a case of Primaris treachery but part of a long-running feud the Custodian Guard have with Space Marines. It’s no secret that a large portion of the Custodian Guard dislike Space Marines. The Guard consider themselves the only true protectors of the Emperor and look down on those other gene-enhanced that serve the Emperor. It was the Adeptus Custodes after all that perpetrated the massacre of the Thunder Warriors, another loyal force destroyed on a thin pretext.  There is also significant evidence that the Guard planned to wipe out the Space Marines at the end of the Great Crusade. Thus we should consider the antagonism of Shield Captain Tyvar as part of a long-running tension between the forces.

Were Tyvar a different person we might assume that his passions got the better of him, that a deep-seated hatred of Space Marines caused him to lose his temper or his cool and act rashly. However Tyvar is a Custodian Guard and they above such base emotions, thus we can only assume that his actions were cold and calculated to achieve the specific goal of destroying this batch of Marines. It’s even possible that the Custodians have been using such thin pretexts to purge Marines across the galaxy as part of some overarching plan to slowly whittle down their power over the Imperium. It’s also possible that Tyvar has been somehow corrupted, maybe by Fabius Bile, though this is supposed to be impossible. At the end of the day, we can’t be sure, after all, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.

Primaris Marines Are Perfect

Of course, the biggest reason we should have known this story of renegade Primaris Marines was bunk is because Primaris Marines are perfect. They were created by the impossible talented Cawl and surpassed even the Emperor’s own works. They are the perfect untouchable paragons of Cawl and the height of Space Marines. They have been armed with the most amazing equipment and technology, thanks to Cawl who’s timely rediscovering of ancient tech allowed this to happen. They are better in every way than old Marines, better than any other humans, certainly better than you or me. They are the perfect flawless beings to lead us through this Dark Millennium, are they are loyal to a fault, just like their creator Cawl and their leader Guilliman. They are our incorruptible saviors and will never turn renegade, never fall to Chaos and never betray us, shame on you forever thinking differently. They are just perfect in every way. Praise be to Cawl.
