This Week in 40K Podcasting – 3/30/2012 – 4/5/2012
Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”
Here is this week’s top 5!
The 11th Company – Episode 113
Highlights: This week opens up with ‘This Week in Gaming’ and Neil and Pat describe their experience at their recent RTT at Heroes and Dragons Games. Neil took his Necrons and Pat took his Grey Knights, both were less then successful. Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat has an interview with David who recently attended the Bay Area Open with his Space Wolves. Next, Pat talks to Dave, formally from the Eternal Warriors, and they talk about his new podcast ‘Best Battle Ever!’ After that, Eric was back from Tactical Terrain and this week he discusses how to be prepared for games with more turns of Night Fighting, thanks to the Necrons. Next, Neil and Steve continue on with the Codex Countdown, and this week they cover Codex Chaos Space Marines. They talk about how the codex is showing its age, however it still has some good matchups. They then go on to their unit-by-unit review of the codex, picking up the finer points of each unit and showing where each has its failing in the competitive 40K scene. After the community segment, the guys close out the show with part two of the ‘Guillermo’ segment. This week they cover why Kill Point Denial lists are so good in tournaments.
Opinion: This was just an outstanding episode this week, an example of how great this show really is. The audio on the RRT was not so hot, but it is to be expected in their recording conditions. Dave from The Eternal Warriors managed to play a nice little ‘April Fools’ joke on us all and his interview was hysterical. The Codex Countdown this week was once again informative and tactical. And the Kill Point denial list review has been just stupendous!
Highlights: This week Sam rejoins the show and they open up by discussing the new releases from Forgeworld, KR Multicase, the death of the 40K MMO, and more. Next up was local Overlords news, including plans for their 100th show, and what they have been up to in the hobby and gaming. Next up was a product review of the Terrain Foundry’s PVC Craters. These are found in all shapes and sizes, but most in the shape of a tank to lay down for exploded vehicles. Then, in ‘Sprue Peter’ the boys discuss the pros and cons of magnetizing your models, or over magnetizing them. Up next in the ‘Uplifting Primer’ segment, the boys continue their conversation about the Horus Hersey novels. This focused on how well they have filled out the back story for Loyalist Marine Chapters. To close out the show, Steve has an interview with Romeo of 40K Radio and Battlefoam fame. They talked about how the show had moved over from the old cast to the new, and how it has grown over the almost 2-years they have been running it. They also talk about Romeo stepping down from the show.
Opinion: This was easily my one of favorite show this week for a whole bunch of reasons. There was an outstanding new product review, which I will be getting, and the tips for magnetizing your models were quite useful. And the Horus Hersey talk has been just stellar! I completely enjoyed this show and anxiously look forward to their 100th! Great work guys!
The Eternal Warriors – Episode 36 ***Explicit***
Highlights: This week’s show was mostly a product review, and a bit of a joke on us all. The guys open up the show with a product review several hobby and gaming accessories. Next, Dave announces that the Eternal Warriors are no more, and Dave is taking over the show. He helps to promote his new podcast, ‘Best Battle Ever!’ The show finishes out with a preview of Dave’s new show, sort of.
Opinion: Well, Dave and the boys managed to pull off a pretty good ‘April Fool’s joke on us all. For the record, the Eternal Warriors are NOT breaking up, and all of the announcements have all been in jest. But, it was a pretty good joke, spanning multiple podcasts. It took great effort to pull it off, but April Fools!
Screaming Heretic – Episode 23 ***Explicit***
Highlights: The cast opens up the show with what they have been doing lately in the hobby and gaming. This also included a pretty detailed review of the new GW paints. They then went over the latest news and releases from Forgeworld, GW, and more. Next, Craig from ‘Bits Box’ led a segment on conversions and this week they talked about how he made his Daemon Price models. Next, the cast talks about the campaign they plan to run and we the listeners can contribute to this campaign. They also talked about release agents for models and how to pore those molds. This then moves onto a great conversation about what they would like to see in the new Chaos Legions Codex. To close out the show, the girls get back to the ‘Girls on Gaming’ segment and this week they cover Adepticon and the other things the Girls of Gaming will be doing This included CosPlay and parties at Adepticon, and new ‘song lyrics’ and ‘logo’ contests. Then, in ‘Kiss My List’, the girls review an all foot slogging Blood Angels list.
Opinion: I really enjoyed this show this week; there were just too many good segments! First, their review of the new paint line was just great, and hearing from Craig was really something different. I am looking forward to their campaign, and the hobby goodies in this show were just amazing. And of course having botht he girls back was just a pure joy!
Preferred Enemies – Episode 25 ***Explicit***
Highlights: The boys continue on with their ‘Armies for Noobs’ series and this week is dedicated to the Dark Eldar! They open up the show with news and new releases, and this included information on the new paint line. They move on to talk about the story of the Dark Eldar, giving a brief description of how they broke away from the Craftworlds. Next, they briefly go over the special rules for the army and give a feel for how they play on the table. Then, they do a quick unit-by-unit review of the selections from this Codex, making sure to point out solid tactical units and combos. This moved on to a discussion of how the Dark Eldar is usually played in a competitive environment, including typical list construction purchasing and building the models. They close out the show with what hobby progress they have made lately.
Opinion: This show is really something I am recommending to all new players, as their ‘Army for Noobs’ segments have been quite good.
