The Necrons are getting a new War of the Worlds-type walker (or two) very soon and today we’re looking at the new Canoptek Reanimator!

You can’t keep a good Necron down. That’s mostly because of the reanimation protocols. But also because the Necrons have some new tricks up their living metal sleeves. The Canoptek Reanimator is going to help those overworked Necron Warriors get back up and back in the fight and Games Workshop is showing off some of their new abilities.

“Like many Canoptek constructs, these repair units are created by the Crypteks to keep the tomb worlds and their armies in tip-top shape – whether they’re taking a well-deserved rest or scourging the universe of any upstart civilisations who’ve moved in over the millennia. On the battlefield, you’ll find your Canoptek Reanimators the perfect accompaniment to your valuable troops, helping you nail those all-important Reanimation Protocol rolls.”

Getting your reanimation protocols off on a 4+ is a nice boost for sure. What’s really going to throw folks off is the timing. Remember, the Command Phase is going to be new for 40k. It’s the first phase of the turn.

Reanimation Protocols happen at the start of the turn:

So just remember the timing on these abilities as that could potentially get a little confusing.

Anyhow, we don’t get a look at the rest of the unit stats or abilities but we do get a little bit of info on the Canoptek Reanimator’s combat prowess:

“As you’d expect for something with claws that big, the Canoptek Reanimator is no slouch in combat. It’s capable of skewering any unfortunate Space Marines that mistake your support units for a vulnerable spot in your line. Ranged attacks also allow you to deanimate foes as quickly as you reanimate friends!”

I’m not 100% sure what GW is alluding to other than it’s going to be able to kill a Space Marine and it has some shooting attacks. Which isn’t exactly earth-shattering info. A stat profile would have been nice. I guess the question is if this new Canoptek Reanimator is going to take over an existing unit’s role on the battlefield or if it will be a “side-upgrade” or perhaps just a different option to do a similar thing.

Eh, we’ll find out! At least one is included in the new “Launch Box” for 9th edition. I’m sure we’re going to see how it functions on the tabletop soon enough.

What do you think of this new Canoptek Reanimator? I think I’ll name it Herbert.
