Team America 40k: Change of Leadership
Hello Everyone, Ben Mohlie a.k.a. Spacecurves here. Today I am announcing that I am stepping down as the Captain of Team America 40k, and appointing Greg Sparks the new Captain.
I’m going to be starting graduate school this summer (Business School to be precise) and this will unfortunately not leave enough time for me to participate in the ETC this year. This wasn’t an easy decision, I will miss it dearly, but it is a necessary one to ensure our team has the leadership it deserves.
When I founded the team three years ago, very few people in the USA had ever heard of the European Team Championships. I am very proud that through the hard work of my team and myself the event is now widely respected in America, and spots on our team are competed for fiercely. My goal when I created the team was to ensure that American 40k players will always be well represented in the world championship of the game we love. I’m very proud to have achieved it, and consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to meet so many great 40k players from around the world.
Another goal I set early on was to promote international 40k competition in the USA. Last year there was, for the first time, a sizable international presence at Adepticon, and that can be directly attributed to Team America. This year I know even more players will make the trip west across the Atlantic, and we look forward to welcoming them!
As I said above, I am appointing Greg Sparks as the new Captain. Greg has been with the team since the very beginning, and has been intimately involved in all aspects of preparation and organization. I know the team will be in the very best of hands going forward. There has not been a final decision reached on how to fill my now vacant spot on the team, we’ll figure that out next.
On the topic of looking forward, the qualification system for 2013 will be announced in the near future, so all you players out there who want to represent our country can make your tournament travel plans.
Let me finish by thanking all the present and past members of Team America. Our many accomplishments have truly been a team effort, and every 40k ETC medal the USA wins in the future, will be because you paved the way.
