It’s another preview for an Army of Renown – say hello to the Mechanicus Defence Cohort!

The Death Guard aren’t the only ones getting access to a new Army of Renown from the up coming War Zone Charadon book. While it is the Book of Rust and the Death Guard are bringing the decay, you can’t have rust without iron – and the Ad Mech have that in droves. So what will the Mechanicus Defence Cohort have under it’s metal shell? Let’s take a look behind the curtain to see what tricks they can pull.

“By tweaking their more mechanical creations to better hold the line at any cost, the defence cohorts of Forge World Metalica are able to shrug off damage that would fell a lesser automaton and more accurately lay down a storm of fire against the shambling hordes charging their lines. It’s so effective, in fact, that the idea can be picked up by any Forge World you might wish to choose.”

Again, these Armies of Renown are optional and when you’re building them out must limit your selection. However, if you choose to do so, you open up some additional options that can be quite useful. In this case, the Ad Mech cannot take any Skitarii units but Kataphron, Servitors, and Kasetelan Robots gain some pretty nice abilities in return. The -1 damage is great for those Kastelan Robots who tend to drawn enemy fire quite a bit.

Choosing to run a Mechanicus Defence Cohort also unlocks a new Relic an even more Stratagems. Here are a pair of new and exclusive Stratagems they can take advantage of:

Get a +1 to hit just for staying in your deployment zone! It’s only 1 CP  and it can really make your shooting more accurate.

It wouldn’t make sense if they were called a Defence Cohort and they didn’t have a way to be better at defending things, right? Why not turn that piece of cover in your deployment zone into SUPER cover? Or at the minimum light cover. Combine that with the fire output that is possible with the various other units in the list and you’ve got a fire support base that will be very tough to take out from a distance.

Now, what was that about a new Relic? It’s called Forgefire and it certainly fits the name:

Talk about an upgrade! This gunned up Volkite blaster is going to have the elitist of infantry armored units concerned about getting shot.

You can get all the new rules for this Cohort of the Adeptus Mechanicus and so much more in the new War Zone Charadon book up for pre-orders March 20th!
